It shouldn't be completely impossible to retain the League as an institution

We all know that the physical League of Legends was removed from the lore because it forced every champion to have a reason for joining the League.

But there's no reason to scrap the concept entirely. Without the League of Legends, the lore of the champions is literally just a random story with nothing to back it up, which is why a lot of people didn't like the change.

The League of Legends could be retained as a method of resolving conflicts on a small, controlled scale, without requiring that champions live on-site at the Institute of War. Instead, when two nations have a conflict they would simply choose representatives to go fight in the League, but at any other time the champions can just run around and do what they want. This makes the League actually relevant to the lore and answers the question of why you have these 10 people randomly fighting on a magical field that respawns you.

I feel like this is a nice compromise. Thoughts?

I mean at this point every solution and idea is better than just having League of Legends itself being removed from the lore. I really think they should readd it to the lore, it makes the game itself just ruined. It doesnt have a proper story anymore...

My thoughts? Doesn't really matter. We're practically a year in to this now; I don't see the IoW ever coming back.

I like the idea. The only small problem I have is that random champions like Tahm Kench or loner champions like Yasuo or "unimportant" champions like Ekko would really have no reason to ever go to the League. Okay, maybe Ekko because of his pride in Zaun, but otherwise, no. They really wouldn't be representing anything, so why should they even be there?

IOW still has a chance to get back into the lore, butt it would have to be and would be drastically different from the original. Less NATO and more UN, which is to say less military power and influence.

I actually thought this is how it is now. Kind of like a branch of non-bipartisan individuals that remain anonymous to the rest of society and are like Judge and Jury on complications that occur in Runeterra.
