[Sound] Champions have become too noisy (warwick patch)
Hi, this is a repost from Reddit, to hopefully catch Riot attention. I don't intend to monitor this discussion as the previous discussion already has hundreds upvotes and comments.
I understand Riot wants to raise the quality bar with each subsequent champion release/update, and this involves raising the quality and the number of audio cues present in the game, but that has to be done with tact and good judgment not to quickly become obnoxious, and I am of the opinion Riot sound designers are going too far, and the last 4-5 champions releases & updates have been way too bloody noisy, to the point of not wanting to play said champions at all or muting the game altogether when playing.
A good audio cue has to be brief and timed properly to indicate and match an important action or a change in the gameplay. Constant background noise is detrimental to all the above, deters from the gameplay and simply becomes really annoying really quickly.
ex: Miss Fortune laughing her ass off when she casts R Bullet Time is okay, so is her quick smirk when her passive triggers, Warwick constant grunting at every bloody auto attack is not okay.
ex: Miss Fortune setting sail as per her quote every other minute is okay, Taliyah throwing another rock every 5 seconds is not okay.
Irelia has always been the benchmark for the most obnoxious champion design ever made and that includes her constant yelling every time she casts her Q, but now I find myself even more annoyed at all those champions who yell in your ears every other second.
Because you can doesn't mean you should.
- Don't tag every single damn thing with an audio cue.
- Space champions quotes out more.
- Avoid local and global quotes as much as possible
- Avoid repetitions and constant background noise
I miss the times when you had to click a champion emote to hear them talk at all. My ears are bleeding.
Tl;dr: Some noise is okay, too much noise isn't.
