Is Sylas' Q inspired by Aatrox's old E?

I know they are different abilities (although both do damage and provide a slow), but when I was testing Sylas' Q at max range it looks like Aatrox's old E. I was wondering if Aatrox's E would be used anywhere else. Even if it wasn't directly recycled, I think that's super neat that it looks a lot like it!!!
