The Matter of Champions' Stories
Since the huge retcon that happened to Runeterra and the removal of the Institute of War we had a couple of story arcs with the release of some Champions which gave glimpse of the new world we play in.
Now lets give a sight to them and the state of some of the main characters.
- The Freljord Arc: This is the most complete one and actually one of the best implemented since it had players set the outcome of which faction would be victorious. If I didn't miss anything now we still don't know the aftermath of the war so this is leaving us with "So... what now?" attitude.
Note: The event and the story started way before the announcement of the retcone but it's clear that it was intended with the rewriting in mind since Bard's sneak stated him knowing about the Watchers.
-
The Shurima Arc: The retcon that caused the major ruckus since it drastically changed the very nature of popular champions from Aliens to Demi-gods and the character of the knoweldge thirsty mage to the plotting/vengeful one. Since it deleted most of the old stories involved, this storyline is still really empty because we only know what happened to Azir but still nothing about what happened in the battle of Xerath vs Nasus and Renekton (and what is the motivation of the former now) nor what happened to Sivir and Cassiopeia.
-
The Shadow Isles Arc: Another rather messy and void arc but this actually was seen in a better light than it's Shuriman counterpart because it introduced a new elemnt, the Black Mist... Some Lovecraftian - Stephen King hybrid which seems to be our Halloween official event. While it didn't destroy much of the former lore, it neither gave any answers to what we already knew about the SI probably adding more hype because of the mist and how SI champions interact with it.
-
The Cosmic Arc: There are actually other superior beings around here.
Here it comes my doubts and questions.
Since these themes can be related to the year's cycles will we have to wait for Summer (Shurima), Halloween (Shadow Isles) and WInter (Freljord) to get more and more glimpse of those storylines? Are you ever going to actually finish the story of Champions? Lets take Xerath as example, are you going to write and deliver us both his battle and sealing story and what are his purposes now in detail? Finishing a story in this way ofc doesn't mean that nothing will be written about said Champions and that the mistery around them is gone. there is always space for the evolution of a character. Lets stay in Shurima and just imagine how HUGE of a Lore-well could be Shuriman Ascended beings recognise the treath the Void is and focusing on it's repression while the latter find in the Ascension a powerful feeding/knowledge tool.
Note: I know Narrative doesn't like to get ideas from other but please if what I wrote had any chance to be a thing don't screw it up because of some1else imaging that xD
How much of the stories are already written and blocked by technicals or time-line? Do you have any plans in having an established serialization of LoL Lore at all?
This has been a really hot spot expecially since the silence from the Narrative team but any imput is welcome and even to have this just as a desk for discussion.
