New Rengar Lore...

Alright. The new story they wrote for him is alright. Nothing too special but then again, who's story is? My problem comes in the form of his new lore. Like wtf. At this point I get the feeling that Riot just doesn't give a fuck about Rengar's identity. The rework turned him for a thoughtful methodical champion to a braindead fuck that for some reason lets people know he's coming for them from a mile away. It is fucking ridiculous. But this is not about the rework, it is about the story. So, What are my problems with this new lore?

Before, Rengar was really mysterious. We did not know his backstory. We did not know who his parents were. We did not know who was the legendary hunter who took care of him. We pretty much only knew that Rengar was a reaaaaly good hunter, he was methodical, thinking about when to attack and choosing the best time to do so, he hunter for entertainment, not survival and we knew about his fights with Kha'Zix and Gnar.

That is pretty much what Rengar's lore was. Sounds like a problem at first, but you must consider that maybe, Rengar did not need a backstory. The lack of information certainly added mystery to the old cat. This greatly added to his theme. A comparison would be batman. I know its not fitting at all but it displays a point. Rengar is there, to do one thing and one thing only. And that is to HUNT. There is this quote by him which goes along the lines of "Hunting is not something I do, it's who I am". On paper, this is just a one dimensional character but you have to think of this in practice. One of the big reasons as to why so many Rengar players (pre-rework) used to play nothing but rengar, no matter the nerf was that because Rengar had a gap in his character, it was up to the player to fill it. It was up to the person who mained Rengar to figure out what they thought of Rengar. I think that this worked wonderfully. His entire kit was built around hunting and his character was built around hunting and no depth was needed whatsoever.

But then this crap came. Like, why the hell do we need to know where he came form? And even a better question, WHY THE FUCK IS HIS CLAN A CLAN OF HUNTERS? Let me explain the problem I have with this. Before, Rengar was THE hunter. Although there are other "hunter" champions in the game, when you thought of the general idea of hunting, Rengar was the first thing that came to mind. He was this badass, lone wolf sort of character that only got pleasure from challenging himself to take down the most dangerous creatures. Now, hes not THE hunter. He is just ONE of THE hunterS. Hunting was reduced from his identity and given to his clan. He now bears his clan's identity, not his. This is fucking disgusting. But I digress. So what the fuck is this "born weak" bullshit. Like if we just had him abandoned in the forest we could understand that he needed someone to protect him due to him being just a cub. But now they added some bullshit story arc that was so unnecessary.

Here is another point that KILLS ME. So, he does not pick up hunting JUST for the thrill. This was who Rengar was. He hunted for the THRILL. nothing else. Now he still hunts for the thrill. But there is another reason in there. This reason is not some sort of small thing like, "Oh he liked the way the animals tasted". He. Wanted. To. Satisfy. Someone. Else. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHAT THE FUCK. Like this changes Rengar's character in such a garbage way. Why would they do this? HE WANTED TO MAKE HIS FATHER PROUD? OH MY GOD. I thought Rengar was this guy who did whatever the fuck he wanted and that was Hunting because he felt like it. But he now does this whole hunting thing just to appease his clan. Now hes not all about hunting. Hes a loyal little kitty who waaaants his claaan to aceeeept hiiiim. FUCK OFF. I understand by the end he just says "fuck it" and goes out on his own, but the fact is that before, he was at this point the whoole time. Now, he got here from a dumb ass back story.

I apologise if you get lost sometimes. This was a rant after all. Im just furious of what they did to my Rengar. First they took all the fun from his kit. And now they are taking away who he is. This is not Rengar anymore.

"So what the fuck is this "born weak" bullshit. Like if we just had him abandoned in the forest we could understand that he needed someone to protect him due to him being just a cub."

He learns to hunt from watching a hunter, survives from scavenging off his kills. The hunter finds out, gives him a knife, and KICKS HIM A F*CKING CLIFF. That's a hell of a hard lesson to learn in life.

"Hes a loyal little kitty who waaaants his claaan to aceeeept hiiiim."

Not really. He wants to prove, that even though everyone doubted his existence, he would be better than they ever were. Which is why he killed his dad. And then left after they made him boss. He doesn't care what everyone else wants, he just wants to hunt.

because Rengar had a gap in his character, it was up to the player to fill it. It was up to the person who mained Rengar to figure out what they thought of Rengar.

So you want his lore to remain a mystery that is never solved? Thats honestly just dumb and would be unsatisfying in the long run....

Now he still hunts for the thrill. But there is another reason in there. This reason is not some sort of small thing like, "Oh he liked the way the animals tasted". He. Wanted. To. Satisfy. Someone. So now its bad that he isn't a static character? That his love for the hunt came from an experience he had in life?

Even batman, the very example that you mentioned, isn't like this, because he wasn't born as batman,he became batman through the things that he experienced.

Did you even make it to the end of the story? Its a clan of lion people of course they are going to be hunters. Rengar was young, and wanted to price his worth it was not a matter of pleasing his Dad, it was a matter of being acknowledged as ahunter (otherwise he would have continued to hunt for Kha' zix instead of admitting defeat) Him being born weak only adds to his character as someone who clawed their way to the top. Rengar is still the old Rengar, but now with a meaningful back story.

Also, I don't see how old Rengar was thoughtful and methodical.

I don't see why you're so hellbent on bashing Rengar's new lore, it's awesome. A lot of people wanted to know what Rengar really was, because all we knew is that "he's a hugeass lion person and there /may/ be more of his kind but we don't know" - and now we /do/ know. He's part of a Shuriman Vastayan tribe called the Kiilash, a tribe of massive lion-bodied hunters.

And I also don't see why you have the problem with his arc: Yes, his identity was fine without one, but adding the character arc genuinely honed it to a proper edge. Rengar was born the runt of a litter to the Chief of a clan of hunters. I think anyone who's born to nobility would aspire to live up to their parent's name, and Rengar is clearly no different.

And so what happens when all of Rengar's hard work fails to gain the admiration of his father? After hunting both to survive, and both to prove to his clan that he's strong, only to be admonished for one failure against a powerful opponent? Rengar realises his father is old and frail, born strong, but aged weak. That he himself was born weak, but became strong. So he doesn't let his father have another word before he splits him open.

And then he tells his entire clan basically to piss off, because he's now out for blood and the joy of shedding it.

That is a damn good story arc to actually put behind a character who already had a suitable backstory, if an obsessively vague one.

All in all, I know that this all is rhetoric, you're not even going to consider whether or not this opinion is a valid one because, from your viewpoint, it isn't. Also, on a separate note, you should probably chop up your paragraphs a little. Huge paragraphs like yours are really hard to read and digest.
