This means they can still be as different as an eagle is from a goldfish, or a human to a turtle. As all of those are of the Phylum Chordate, which includes fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Nami being a Vastaya doesn't mean that she is that similar to Rengar or Xayah. It pretty much just means she is a magical animalistic humonoid, which we already knew that she was. Not much has changed.

Vastaya is master race so the more the better, half of the races of all the major mmorpgs are now Vastaya as well

I don't mind Nami being Vastaya but the scale seems a bit much and to why there may be some confusion. Nami is a Marai which in this context is comparable to humans, right? Going by our own science we have a genus, family, order and class before we get to Chordate, our Phylum. Nami's species is the Marai, which probably has it's own genus and family but the Marai's Order and Class seem pretty removed from Xayah and Rakan's as much as humans are from a toad (or in a closer context, a gull is from a sardine, birds eat fish). Are they even in the same Class? I wouldn't think so.

Yet, Xayah and Rakan speak as though to be Vastaya is as important as whatever their species is (one winged bird people). This is odd but it's also hard to comprehend because of the scale and the fact no other species in our animal kingdom has the same intelligence as us and certainly not in another Phylum.

I think I'm over thinking this.

Like how there's human subclasses in LoL (Ionian, Shuriman, Freljordian, more exotic ones like Ascended or Undead), there's Vastayan subsclasses as well (Marai, whatever it is Xayah and Rakan are, Ahri's race, etc).

There's been 'classes' in League forever. Yordles (Tristana, Teemo, etc) even have their own subcasses (Primal (Gnar) and Aquatic (Fizz)).

I forgot taxonomy was even a thing. Haven't used it since the 3rd grade and its never come up until Eduard's Journal and made me look it up.

I'll attempt to restrain my grievances until further Ionian Update notice though.

The largest issue is using the name Vastaya as one would a common species, as in the case of Xayah and Rakan. When one fights for humanity, they are specifically fighting for the human species. Not the bears, the fish, the Marai. Not anthropoda, nor porifea. I'd draw issue with the VO writers because as is, it blurs the line like the Vastaya are a species (thus causing conflict) rather than a phylum.

People don't casually drop their taxonomical classification in common conversation. There's very little point going beyond race or species in 99% of contexts.

Arent Vastayans descendants of shapeshifter-like beings? I mean i COULD see people being angry that there were shapshifting people that eventually became fish people to explain fish people, instead of "Oh hey fish people exist"
