So, Xayah's title is "The Rebel", and her bio includes a mention of attacking an Ionian soldier at a bar. Her quotes also seem to heavily imply the Vastayah as a whole are rebelling against something. So evidently things aren't going too well in Ionia, probably between the Vastayah and Humans, given her disdainful comments towards them as well.
