Story and Lore, is there a point?

Riot I love all Story and lore you put in the game but it all feels like a waste... I know this is a MOBA and all but what's the point of adding all this Lore and Story if it's just gonna be another Temp PVP game mode or another champion.

The latest content surrounding Shurima is just another piece of the whole that boggles me, it all feels like wasted work, I could bet big that out of everyone who plays LoL only 5% to 10% actually cares about it all... What I really saying/asking is, all the story you put in the game deserves a Story Mode, I like reading it all, but it would be nice to experience it in-game, instead of just ending up with another boring Temp game mode or Champion...

Lore is there to serve the background of the champion.

I have to agree on the part about 'most people don't care about it', but I don't think a story mode will be possible since every champ have very different backgrounds. Some of these champions even have multiple characters that was never introduce to the game (Poppy's old man, Katarina's dad, Annie's parents, Sona's adoptive mother etc.), trying to incorporate all of those into a story mode is nearly impossible especially on a MOBA.

However, I do not think that lore is a waste. Lore might not have a big purpose in term of game play, but they are the source of creativity. Of course there are going to be people that over sexualize these characters regardless of their actual personality. But there are also many piece of arts, that truly show the champions debt and beauty. For example, I would have never understand why Orianna say "Why are they running?" when she is in her idle animation if it isn't for the lore. Apparently, she is a robot that try to hard to be a human that she end up creeping out everyone. "Why are they running?" might actually represent her recalling the memory of children running away in fear when she tried to "be like human", which is really sad that she have nobody that can understand her as a robot, except her dad who has gone crazy at that point.

As for why they are putting so much work on lore, I believe it's there future/back up plan. Let face it, gaming industry is so fast pace, a big thing can die in a matter of seconds in this community. In the future, lore might become a great part of their new products as they continue to grow. Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing an animation of these lore, right now we just have the lore TL;DR, which is... cool I guess.

Historically almost nobody has given a damn about Lore. But some of us really, really do, and I wouldn't be playing League without it. To be honest, I think the gameplay and meta of things like DOTA2 are more appealing.

But I like the characters in LoL. I like the setting. They feel more like "characters" and less like "Classes". I'm not playing "Knight", I'm playing Garen. I'm not playing as "Helicopter", that's Corki. And that brings a lot of life to it. I've never been a person who really cares about "immersion" or whatever the new word for "The trees are growing in the right places, JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE" is, but I love writing, and I love characters, and LoL has lots of fun characters.

Plus, this sort of content (Shurima, Bilgewater) is like a fountain in the desert for Lore fans. For pretty much the whole year of late 2013-2014, we had nothing. And now there's stories and backstories and events and holy shit it's really cool, at least for me. Now, a story mode for League would be...hard.

You have to answer questions like: What's the "Story"? There's about a million different stories in League, what's the one we're focusing on. How is it going to work in a multiplayer game? How do you market it to the 90% of LoL players who don't know Noxus from Ionia?

Without lore, LoL is nothing to me. You may don't care but some of us really do.

I just disdain how it's called summoners rift still but there's no more summoners......

But how would you include that into the game?

LoLs gamestyle simply isn't that suited for stories and the huge amount of champs would mean that the gamemode would need to be extremely expansive to please everyone.

So a satisfying story mode would likely end up much larger than the whole game that we currently have.
