Can Riot Make A Canon Comic Book Series (plz)

I want to see riot release a comic series with color where a new chapter comes out once every 2 weeks and this would be considered the Canon for the story... If the problem is money they can charge the normal 1-2$ per chapter like most american comics do and then like 10-15 dollars for a volume.

They can hold it for sale in their new merchandise website or sell digital copies slightly cheaper... I for one KNOW I would buy every single chapter that comes out because the lore of the league of legends is what drew me in, and while I can make as many fan theories as I want it's never as satisfying as knowing the truth about the characters I like (whether my theories were right or wrong)

The real question is: "Could they do this?"

There are several problems with this:

  1. Narrative/Riot would need to reestablish their lore, which changed completely after the retcon announcement.
  2. They would also need to hire writers to can work within the comics format (kinda like a movie script but with its own unique quirks and challenges). These stories would also need to be approved by Riot at every stage of the process. Even if they work in advance, there's also the demand to introduce the newest champions into this format, which might not be feasible.
  • The company's desire to have these lore stories relate equally to their international customers may also play a part in developing these scripts.
  1. Riot would need to find artists who can produce high quality work with a short turnaround. These sorts of artists are in high demand by the "real" comics industry and Riot would need to both pay them well and keep them interested.
  • "Fan favorite" artists would just not work as they're not used to firm "we really need it, fully finished and ready for public release, by [specific] date and not a day later" deadlines. Not to mention that they're not used to the sort of strict NDA provisions they would need to be under. They're fans and not being able to even say ***"Hey, guys. I'm working on something awesome with Riot but I can't say exactly what" ***would be a problem.
  1. Even at the point of release, something may happen. If it's an ink & paper comic, printers may have their own issues. If it's a digital release, there could be problems with that format that I'm not aware of. Artists would need to be on retainer to fix errors.

It could be done, but it's not as easy as some of you are assuming.

Indeed. While you wait for that, go read Tales of Valoran. A webcomic on League of Legends. Really funny.

I and all the people I play with would love this.

But you're asking Riot to make new lore. They are incapable of doing so. You might as well ask them to make a game other than League of Legends.

I'd rather see them go the webcomic approach: They put the pages online for free, but you can buy the volumes (wich include some bonus stories that cannot be found online) from the merch-store. A perfect way to draw attention to that store...

I'm in for multiple comic series... you know, one frelgord comic, one about noxus, one about piltover... etc etc. Think of marvel or DC. and sometimes a big and fat crossover event that could be used for a new gamemmode/champ realese/or whatever

This would be a nice hit for their marketing ^_^

Not right now. They need to work on the lore that already exists (or perhaps more appropriately, the lore that doesn't exist) before they start creating supplementary lore content like comics and suchlike.
