About Malzahar's Texture Update...

First of all, just want to thank Riot for looking over all the outdated champions and really working to make everyone looks awesome on the new map and in the loading screen. Also want to thank you guys for listening to our feedback, like when you fixed Wukong's new splash, lovely job, love that monkey.

So... about that new base. Love the gauntlets, love the ankle cuffs, love the runes! But the colors are all wrong. He shouldn't be pink. Not that there isn't anything wrong with pink, its just that it doesn't match his splash art at all or his abilities. Seriously, look at his W, it opens a gaping hole into purplish/blueish darkness. The bright pink doesn't fit at all. Make him more like the splash art, cool blues and violets.

Also, he's suddenly white now? What? He's supposed to be from the Shuriman Desert, so isn't that why in his old model he has more pigmentation? Why would you make him white?

Edit: Okay, there are lots of different Middle-Easter ethnicities, that's a fair argument. But changing his skin to be a lighter tone isn't necessary.

Uh oh, they made him more white. Incoming social justice shitstorm.

No golden Voidlings for Shadow Prince Malzahar?

Notworth/10

He literally lost all his muscle definition so his arms are now noodley

The Whitening of League. Taric was first. Riven is going to be next since they already whitened up her default splash. Nidalee probably after that since they're already starting to whiten her skins.

Is it just me or does anyone else like the older textures better?

PhoenixSlayer1312/3/2014, 2:30:55 AM3 votes

I found the skin tone lightening to be kinda weird too.

Then again, Malzahar's gone through similar problems as Taric, where he started off dark-skinned in his splash arts and newer splash arts depicted him with lighter skin, and his model has stayed dark-skinned until now (Taric's model was always light-skinned even though his original splash had darker skin). Strangely, the opposite happened with Twisted Fate.

DAMMIT RIOT, DECIDE WHAT COLOR YOUR PEOPLE ARE! AT LEAST MUNDO IS PURPLE.

i guess the base skin won't matter if i constantly use Snow Day Malzahar

Not really feeling this update, the colors are too bright and gaudy. His main, and Vizier suffer from the bright pink fuchsia tones and the red. Overlord and Shadow Prince are alright, still like the deeper tones and shadows tho. Djinn is in the middle.

Also, he's too white. He's supposed to be from the Shuriman Desert, so naturally his skin would have a bit more pigmentation.

Sivir's white and she's also from Shurima.

Agreed on the texture colors. I've been both looking forward to, and dreading his eventual texture update. The new textures look good, but like OP I'd like to see less pink.

I don't mind the white, as 1) there are plenty of middle-eastern ethnicities, not just the indo-iranian ones, and 2) Shurima isn't actually in the middle east, it's in Runeterra, with its own genetic history. That said, it'd be nice to have a bit more diversity in the game, certainly for characters whose design already suggests it.

Also, this would be the perfect time to recolor his voidlings and particles to match his textures and skin splashes respectively. I can't imagine how either of those would be a lot of work compared to his texture update, it'd just involve some other people.

The gloves are less detailed too :/ Why is it they always take away detail with these things? Do they think it clutters the screen? I think we want detail...

I hope that shadow prince's effects will finally become yellow.

Luckily his colors are changed already.

Kingsgrave12/3/2014, 12:00:25 AM1 votes

Just make him purple and it would be fine

Those updated voidlings look ugly

Probably gonna be bombarded with DV's here, but malzahar was always intended to be White, atleast, of natural skin color, as shown in his Splash (Splash = more canon than IGT's)

now, i'll be honest, the lack of darker skinned champs does annoy me, as the only Black champ is Lucian, and his one skin makes him white.

However, i'll be honest, I'd find it a whole lot Creepier if malz was black, since its usually just strange for a black person to be spewing out magical beams from their eyes and mouths while creating Spiderants from Borderlands.

Its not so much pink and more so a mangenta.

Poro Supremacy12/3/2014, 5:38:52 PM1 votes

They definitely need to get rid of the pink, it just doesn't suit him at all. Plus it doesn't match his splash, which is very clearly purple and not pink.

It should be noted that this is NOT A VISUAL/TEXTURE UPDATE, but specifically, it is a texture REBALANCE. It's NOT meant to make them look "better" really, or more appealing, it's meant to make them stand out more and fit alongside the colors of the updated SR.

What Malz needs is a full VU, or at the very least an updated model similar to Renekton or Maokai. This is NOT that, nor is it replacing that or delaying that. This is a quick band-aid fix that is meant to be temporary until he gets more attention.

Kinda makes me glad I have a skin for him
