Riven's part in the Awaken cinematic doesn't make sense to me

As we know, Noxians LOVE gladiatorial combat Draven , but here's a MAJOR issue I have with Riven being the protagonist of the Gladiator match.

She hasn't, at all, had a reason to be there or do something like that.

Her current lore shows she shouldn't even be in Noxus at all.

You know who SHOULD be there in HER place, as Noxian Gladiatorial combat is IMPORTANT TO THEIR LORE? XinZhao !!!! HE SHOULD BE THE ONE DOING THIS! NOT Riven

Why she is the one participating in this when her story has NOTHING to do with this and XinZhao 's does?

Makes no sense.

Edit: Saying it's what she's doing now in the lore without even updating her universe bio is the lamest excuse to push your weeb cater in advertisement.

Awaken is supposed to represent a handful of alternate future scenarios.

  • Camille goes on a mission to take out Jhin, who's now in Piltover. (This is the most plausible.)
  • Noxus launches another incursion into Ionia, but this time the Ionians are prepared (and they have Akali and Karma, who are now old enough to fight in Akali's case/willing to fight in Karma's).
  • Riven returns to Noxus and redeems herself in the arenas against Draven.

Because she's an attractive, popular champion and you can always pull an explanation for her to be there out the ass.

It's in the future where she is captured by Noxians.

Because Riot killed off Riven's desire to do anything with Noxus but since she's a Noxian champ they need to force her back to Noxus one way or another.

I agree on most parts, but I'll be honest if there was one more goddamn Ionian champion in that cinematic I would've vomited, Riot needs to leave weebland in the dust for a few years while exploring things like Sylas' revolution, Morde's conquest of the shadow isles, maybe some Azir stuff, hell, even yordles at this point would be better than Ionia

KneecapPhilly confirmed Riven was captured and extradited to Noxus to serve out her sentence in the arena sometime in the future

they aren't supposed to be real, more like alternate reality if, as some say here, they plan on releasing stories including these then they'd have to retcon a lot of stuff from already new lore which is honestly just stupid, so many characters in need of fleshing out and they spend time retconing the retcons? yeah I don't think so

It's happening in the future. I'm think her being seized because she is, y'know, a war fugitive.

The cinematic hinted at things that might happen in the future. Riot clarified that even though Riven lives currently in ionia, she is still considered a noxian champ, which means that her lore is likely gonna bring her back to Noxus, possibily as a prisoner in the arena.

My theory about that is that after the "Broken Blade" events she came back to Noxus ready to atone herself and maybe save Noxus too. Once she comes back she gets captured as she still is a deserter and gets put into the arena forced to fight in order to win her life back.

This is what most likely happened. If you check the video you can see that she is chained to the middle of the field and without her or any other weapon.

Meanwhile, she's nowhere to be seen in Ionia, the place where the lore left her.

I'm a little disappointed that Noxus didn't seem to learn from the last time they invaded Ionia and just threw a bunch of redshirts and one Champion at them. I was glad to see Sion in a cinematic, though.

Shame he got his butt kicked six ways to Sunday, but that's what it's like playing Sion.

You ult into a teamfight, steer poorly so you end up way too far ahead of your team, everyone immediately attacks you, they all move way faster than you, and their Yasuo's off farming.
