I'm curious as to what everyone thinks is so dangerous about Bilgewater, I mean it is by no means a safe place to live but it should be fairly manageable if you're smart right? Am I just wrong as my friend screams at me every time I say lore wise Bilgewater is pretty safe to live in.

well your friend isnt wrong. Bilgewater is filled to the brim with criminals who will gladly slice you to pieces, is subject to the Harrowing annually (could be wrong on that), home to MANY sea monsters, and the only upside is getting rich quick if lucky. and that last part does not even matter due to just becoming another target for people to kill for your money. Ph and if you have a dumb captain who does not pay the tithes, well good luck, you will likely die.

basically, you have to be tough and at the top of your game constantly. Gangplank lived his life paranoid (but luckily not consumed by it) as the boss of all Bilgewater. the only place (obviously not including places like void or shadow isles) I would say is just as if not more dangerous is Zaun

EDIT: oh yeah, also watch out for the Blood Harbor Ripper.

Regardless of the crime (of which there is a lot) or the pirate power struggle (Gangplank was pretty brutal when in charge, but with him gone there's lots of brutal fighting instead), none of that even matters when you consider how close Bilgewater is to the Shadow Isles. Bilgewater could be an idyllic land of order and justice, but that doesn't matter when ghosts are breathing down your neck and the Harrowing happens with some regularity. No matter how prepared they are, I still feel like this makes Bilge one of the most unsafe places in Runeterra that we know of. Other than the Shadow Isles themselves I guess, and maybe somewhere the Void is really concentrated, like Icathia.
