Lore Release Cadence - Is a two-week cycle the goal?
Dear Riot Narrative Discipline,
**Is the goal for the release of new lore to fit into the current two-week development cycle? Can we as players expect new lore (either one-off stories or updated bios or continuations of world-altering 'main' storylines) to be released according to a reliable and predictable schedule like skins and balance changes or will we be surprised by the timing every time? And here I don't mean is this something you'd ideally like to do; I mean, are you actually creating a development pipeline to make this a reality? If yes, awesome! If not, would you be able to share why this isn't feasible or whether it is something you might be able to do in the future? **
I've been interested in the lore of League of Legends for a long time and have watched the game lore change dramatically over the past six years. From the regularly released Journal of Justice to the ret-cons to the dissolution of the Institute of War through now, and I am really pleased with the current lore direction and excited for the future. Long ago I created a schematic to show how champions were connected to each other in the lore, but that was during a time when we simply had to imagine how champions might interact with each other. These new stories not only satisfy a real craving for a fleshed-out world narrative, but they also provide a thought-provoking look into champions who might appear to be 1 or 2-dimensional characters in game (Zed is my favorite example of this so far and I can't wait to see the continuation of his storyline along with Jhin and Shen).
Every two weeks, players can reliably expect new balance changes and new skins added to the game. Every two months, players can expect new champions added to the game (roughly). New music and new features are also included sporadically, but are usually also on a fairly reliable schedule. Currently, my personal feeling is that it's safe to assume we get one major lore event per year, usually during the Summer months (Bilgewater last year set an awesome precedent that I'm sure you're eager to capitalize on once again, given the overall positive reaction it received). But these new stories are taking the world of Runeterra in a completely new direction that's really exciting and I of course want to know when's the next time I'll get to read more.
So if any of you have a moment, I'd love to hear any thoughts you could share about this!
