This new Varus lore is morally wrong read why.
I just finally created an account here because what a Rioter said does not sit right at all with me. Saying that Reddit has been overwhelmingly positive is just wrong and trying to shape it at all in a wanted direction. While Reddit did, in general, agree that the new lore has certain interesting aspects, this here just feels completely generic and has less depth than the old lore. Furthermore, most of the new Reddit threads about Varus, as well as most upvoted comments were all negative about this new lore. How it is just outright wrong to take Varus being a parent away from his lore.
Guess what, we don´t have a single champion in league of legends now that was officially married to a woman and at the same time a parent either. Maybe name me a champion who is likewise a parent. This hurts hard, as the drive of being a parent is an extremely strong one for most people and you took a very important and interesting part of a character, that we did not have with others away for the sake of diversity. We did on the other hand lose the diversity of being a parent now too.
Reddit did, in fact, agree that you could have done this to most champions and it would not have mattered even the slightest because their sexuality was never clear. Or why not just use this lore with the two homosexual men for another champion? There is absolutely nothing wrong with diversity at all, it is however very wrong to kill an old Character´s identity.
The main reason why I did create this account was that of how disillusioned you are about the number of people that care or even read the lore. You talk about making millions of us happy and therefore the forums and Reddit, ... don´t even matter. Guess what most people who are active are the only ones who even care about the lore.
The number of people who invest time to read your lore and truly enjoy it is actually incredibly small. I know this out of personal experience and talking with fellow players, as well as reading comments in big social forums like yeh who cares? In the end, nothing matters, as it does not change what the character does in the game. Riot most people actually just want to play your game and do not even care one single bit about your lore. Sorry but this is the harsh reality and if you did not even know this then this shows that you are not as engaged with your community as you think (even though in general you are, it just seems not be the case in the lore level).
What I can, however, tell you for sure is that a huge amount of lore invested people are incredibly unhappy with what you do to the old characters to just override their identities instead of building upon them and this does leave an incredibly bad taste in our mouth and makes us just in general respect your lore way less. Why should we even identify and invest in a character, when the lore can just brutally get changed anyway?
Exactly. It just does not make any sense. Varus was by the way also one of the oldest league characters and people identified with him for years.
Sincerely, A huge lore lover who is incredibly disappointed not by your new direction of league lore but what you do when you override the personality of old characters instead just building up on it.
