Unlikely, but I'll have to admit that they do put an unusual amount of focus on the sludge leaking from that barrel for a few seconds...
Maybe one of Warwick's stories will provide us with more info as Riot's now working hard to keep some champions interconnected to each other through small details and lore bits? We now Know that the hextech crystal that Ekko uses to power his Z-drive was once the same crystal that Viktor stole from Jayce, for example.

The did it. Again. They completely retconned a champion's orgin story for no reason other than the change for the sake of change. AGAIN.
