Genuinely Confused

Removing everything magical about the Cottontail Teemo splash for a cheap knockoff was bad. Giving Sakura and Sun Goddess Karma the weeaboo treatment was also pretty bad. Giving Renegade Talon the face of a corpse while simultaneously toning down Karthus's corpse-face was definitely tragic.

But Musketeer Twisted Fate? Really? From this; http://www.leagueoflegendsskins.com/images/champions/splash/TwistedFate_6.jpg

to this? http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/lollll/imgs/e/e/ee8d576c.jpg

For the other skins, they weren't exactly upgrades stylistically but I can see how somebody on the less artistic side may have seen the higher definition of the new splashes and thought; "Yeah, those are better." But this? Going from a dynamic, well-composed piece of decent quality to that? Going from a piece that tells a story to a piece that you could easily swap out for any cheap mobile game?

If I'm being completely honest, one of my favourite parts about League has been the splash arts. I save my favourites on my computer and set them as my backgrounds, and I've always appreciated the quality and artistry that seemingly went into all of them, even excusing the occasional anatomical anomaly.

But I'm sorry, I don't understand nor can I support the decisions that somebody with functioning eyeballs must be making. I just can't comprehend them. For now the splash card for Musketeer TF seems to be the original, but the one that shows up on the client under TF is the other one and that worries me.

There's enough complaints about at least the Cottontail Teemo splash to warrant a change, I'd think; Riot did as much for the Fiora splash. (Granted, that was slightly more drastic of a change, but still just as offensive)

I don't usually input on things like this but I just can't fathom anybody supporting these changes.

Good Lord... That skin immediately reminded of those annoying ads for obviously cheap flash games trying way too hard to look cool.

SaltyToplaneGoat4/24/2016, 12:57:00 AM71 votes

It looks like garbage art you would find on an ad for a shitty browser game or something...

A musketeer is a swashbuckling hero. Nothing in this new splash says that. In fact it screams weird Illuminati mage, and its horrendous.

I don't understand either. I can't even make ANY logical sense for why they choose that... crappy Chinese splash art.

Who chooses these kinds of shit? I love Riot, and am not some Riot hater, but seriously? Not only did Riot remove the cute and cuddly Cottaintail Teemo splashart that I love, Riot did this as well. It's really irritating.

I just scrolled down and saw the picture... and thought that you were posting something about how a mobile game had cheaply copied TF. Then I actually read the post and realized... THAT WAS THE NEW SPLASHART. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

If you stuck a, "League of Angels" mark up in the corner I'd legit think they made it themselves for once in their life.

That's how bad this is. I'm so glad I don't use this skin, because I'd never use it with this for a splash.

Chinese casual market.

Less update times for them means more people playing. We get to suffer so they don't have to because of sheer population numbers.

They won't tell you that, but it's the case.

Welcome to the new Riot under Tencent games, where profit is the only thing that will ever matter to them no matter the damage they do. EA makes better goddamn marketing - no, Konami makes better marketing decisions than they do. I'll be honest, they should have gotten our musketeer TF splash, it feels a lot more like a "musketeer" than the one we have now. that one feels more like "magician TF 2".

Or... you know making Gothic Annie from a brooding child that looks like she'll flash tibbers you to a happy child that... idek- it completely ruined the whole gothic appeal of the skin.

SlyTactician 4/24/2016, 7:39:27 PM5 votes

I wish Riot at least acknowledged the concerns regarding the splash changes for the Cottontail Teemo, Sun Goddess Karma, Goth Annie and this TF skin as well.

All of these skins have had threads dedicated to the complaints against not replacing the original splashes in the top read threads for quite a few days - though nothing has been said by Riot about it. I really do hope these changes get reverted much like the Nightraven Fiora skin. I absolutely adored the Cottontail Teemo splash due to how cute and charming it was; however, the "new" splash depicts Teemo with an extremely disfigured face that hardly bears a resemblance to him, but rather that of an old man.

It's a shame - I hope Riot responds about this. I know this is a temporary fix, but there's so many splashes out there for Riot to work on and who knows how long it will take to get to these specific splashes.

World Ender4/24/2016, 3:28:49 PM5 votes

You do realize that these changes are temporary, right...?

warmcorntortilla4/25/2016, 9:10:54 AM4 votes

All these whiny splash art threads... RIOT IS CHANGING THEM ALL PERMANENTLY. Just get over it and wait like good children for the new ones! Trust me, I KNOW these splash arts are an eyesore and Sungoddess Karma is... horrific... but there's no point in complaining! Riot isn't going to single out the worst offenders of splash art and say, "Oh... you're right NA! Your original splash was better! Guess our goal of ~globalizing skins will be put aside for... um... Musketeer Twisted Fate because YOU don't like it as much!"

Just accept that you're going to have to wait for these splash arts to be updated. There are literally hundreds. You will just have to wait. It sucks, but it's the truth, and no amount of sad board threads will change that.

That change is nearly as bad as what old Pax Sivir to Chinese Pax Sivir was:

to

http://st.elohell.net/public/chill/4241d7604b330063b2e16d0948fbcaca.jpg

I think both of these need to be reverted. The old splash arts actually have the same art style as current splash arts, these shuffles definitely do not, they look cheap, chinese knock-off, bad.

Selfhood4/24/2016, 4:40:06 PM4 votes

Riot went really stupid with the splash art changes. Cottontail Teemo is like what the actual fuck??

Eevee In A Jar4/24/2016, 7:38:15 PM4 votes

Yeah this is like one of those things where Riot just went full retard.

Verandure4/24/2016, 4:10:37 AM3 votes

Well, China has been on a rampage trying to purge american tech companies. I think Riot is having to bend knee to keep on Tencent's good side or they get ousted, too.

Mirelyght4/24/2016, 6:28:35 PM3 votes

have you seen the new toxic mundo splash art? it looks like a 2nd grader drew it...badly...

I Am Pure Krogan4/24/2016, 7:19:24 PM2 votes

Didn't read all of the comments, but I was looking over the new splashes for champs... I mean "new" and I noticed that A LOT of these "new" splashes I saw from the Chinese version yeaaaaaars ago. For example, Eve's splashes. Where she looks even more like a Satanic Stripper than the original splashes had. And no, I'm not talking about her classic. I mean Masquerade Evelynn and Shadow Evelynn. Annie is.. Her splashes now are ridiculous. Goth Annie for example. I loved the original before this replacement. Red Riding Annie was changed a while back but still, she's too... Cutesy. Annie in Wonderland, another example. Annie isn't what she used to be to me and I'm pretty sure a lot of other people. Also Frostfire Annie is a joke. Sivir's "new" splashes are a weeaboo's wet dream. A LOT of these "new" splash arts are seriously questionable and I don't really approve or like many of them... I don't understand the point behind changing a lot of these. I don't support them at all.

Krigjer4/25/2016, 5:36:18 AM2 votes

My biggest problem with the 'new' splashes is that they don't LOOK like Riot splasharts. They look like FANART, but because they're high resolution, shinier and 'better', people are just accepting them.

I'd rather keep a lot of the older arts for longer than to have to stare at the random-looking pieces of crap. The 'new' arts are supposed to be placeholders because actual updated art is supposed to 'be on the way; soon'. I'd really rather just wait.

Catastrop4/25/2016, 11:59:33 AM2 votes

I swear, I'm getting real tired of these threads.

Hahahah best thing I've read all day! Quality!

Solitair4/24/2016, 2:39:03 AM1 votes

Art is subjective, so to be fair, the only real objective way one can compare the quality of splash arts is through technical accuracy and mastery. Therefore, your claim that people on the "less artistic side" will judge technically superior splashes to be better is complete bullshit. I will guarantee you, no one with years or even a lifetime of extensive art training and practice(as you would say, people on the "less artistc side") will not be able to catch the glaring errors and mistakes in the old splashes, nor will they be unable to appreciate a superior execution of mechanics.
