I just realized something since Gameplay =/= Lore

I see the point you're trying to make and it's totally valid.

Riot either has to say that game-lore wise, the rematch is canon, change the item, or change the flavor text to refer to some Ionian victory over Noxus rather than the rematch.

Either way, a piece of Rito History will die.

Even if gameplay and lore are separate now doesn't mean they can't have events, like the "rematch", which affacts the story. Remember the Freljord Event, with the voting through each icon? That is a recent example of how they can have the game affect the lore. Supposedly the "poll results" of that will influence the development of the conflict in Freljord once they circle back to that area.

The game reflects the lore but the lore doesn't reflect the game. Decisions for the lore, however, *can *still be made through events in or outside the game. The result of those decisions will be described in another context, which isn't that different from what we had before; summoners where never described as literal earthlings in front of computers, either. Things aren't *that *different from when summoners were canon.

oh....ya right....those boots huh. Completely forget about that little fact, well either way, what ever they decided to do it can backfire really hard.

If they plan to keep it as is, then it goes against the whole retcon. Since as you said gameplay doesn't equal lore.

On the other hand, they can change the words around but in the end will lose a big part of Riots history, especially something many watched.

All n all it seems like what ever option they go with, its going to backfire.

EDIT: I just realized I basically said the same thing as Darrosh Jewfist, sorry read the comments after i was done typing.

Personally, I prefer the view that everything in-game is part of a separate lore-bubble, in which can be found Summoners, Champions, minions, the Fields of Justice, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, and so on. Meanwhile, Narrative is writing its Runeterran Adventures in a separate bubble. Narrative is importing some things from the lore of League itself, but they're two separate realms.

This is part of why I think it's really silly for Narrative to order other Rioters to strip Summoner references from Champion VOs. They don't demand that Summoner's Rift be transformed into a Tron-style neon grid. They don't insist that "THIS IS ALL FAKE" be plastered on the trees and walls of the Rift. They don't freak out about Announcer Lady saying that a Summoner has disconnected. The game itself depicts events from the League lore-verse, not from the Narrative lore-verse. So what's the problem with Lux saying, "Tactical decision, Summoner!" or Swain snapping, "I'll give the orders!" at the player?

Overall since the game=/= lore it means that there is no reason to change them. I mean if that is the case,then why would they need to do it?The match happened in real life and isn't that worth remembering?

Actually, they can keep it as is BECAUSE the game has no bearing on the lore. The existence of the boots in the game is entirely meaningless. Because the Ionian-Noxian conflict was resolved with a Summoner's Rift match, it can be assumed that the conflict is either ongoing, or never happened.

More important is what that means for both Riven's and Yasuo's stories. Riven's story now goes, "I used to be Noxian, then I saw some horrible stuff in the Ionian invasion, and now I don't like them anymore." Yasuo's story goes, "I was guarding this guy, but I got cocky and left him alone so I could go kill some Noxians. He ended up dead and I took the heat because of the way he was killed."

Chances are they'll keep it as a "Hey, remember when this happened?" sort of thing.

What I think will happen is that it's just a name that they won't change and it could be argued the name just has no bearing anymore, it's just a cool name.
