What happened to the fully fleshed out lore?

Ever since have been planing League of Legends (September 2014) I have noticed that the lore for the individual champions has been lackluster at best. I remember when had just moved to a new apartment and we did not have wifi yet so I was forced to use the weak data on my phone plan. During that time I had just read up on the lore of each champion and fall in love with the lives of all these characters, but now when I look at the newer champs its like Riot has just given up on it and it's sad. I loved learning about everyone in the league whether it by sp00ky like Shaco or extremely bad-ass like Jax. I really miss knowing who each of the characters were and where they came from. Please Riot bring back the amazing lore that you used to have! (I really hope i'm not in a really small minority here ಠ_ಠ)

History lesson!

Around september 2014 Narrative decided to change the way they delivered lore; short paragraphs in the client and long form lore on the website. The client was supposed to have a link to the website and all lore relating to a champion. This failed because the website and client were intrinsically linked, and so they couldn't release the long lore in the manner they wanted to.

July 2015 rolls by and finally things are fixed up, and Riot decides to stick with their plan of short paragraphs for introduction in the client, while putting fully fleshed out lore on the website. Burning Tides: Reckoning came out during this time and Gangplank, Miss Fortune, Graves and Twisted Fate all recieved fully updated lore in a completely new style that was for more indepth than anything we'd had for a champion bio before. This is the current standard.

Right now the following champions have lore in the manner I described:

  • Gangplank
  • Miss Fortune
  • Graves
  • Twisted Fate
  • Kindred
  • Fiora
  • Mordekaiser
  • Kalista
  • Karthus
  • Thresh
  • Hecarim
  • Illaoi
  • Poppy

All champions will eventually be recieving lore in the style you will find on their champion pages, and right now riot's priorities for updating the lore of champions is as follows:

  • If a champion is new they will be recieving lore in the current standard.
  • If a champion is recieving a major visual and kit rework they will be having their current lore updated
  • If a champion is going to be involved in an event of some kind with story relevance they will have their current lore updated.
  • If a champion has lore that is completely broken they will be brought to the current lore standard as soon as possible

Right now Jhin, League's newest champion, will be recieving lore in the current standard upon his release, as well as Shen, who is recieving a visual and kit rework. They are expected to be released the week after next, with the relase of patch 6.2 Champions with lore that is right now broken, such as Jax, Nocturne, Kayle, Morgana, etc, are in line for updates and will be released when they are of an acceptable standard. When that is I have no idea, but a good indication will be when their lore on the pbe is changed to an introductory paragraph. That indicates a long form lore in the current standard is ready and waiting for them.

Event wise we are going to be visiting Mount Targon very soon, and so Pantheon, Diana and Leona are all extremely likely to recieve updated lore. We will also be returning to Shurima to fix the broken lore from there, so Nasus, Renekton, Amumu, Azir, Xerath, Sivir, Cassiopeia, Ezreal, Skarner, Rammus and potentially Rek'Sai are all in line for lore in the new style.

Rework wise Taric is the next large scope one, and he will be recieving updated lore when his rework comes out.

tl;dr shit's broken but being worked on. Actual lore isn't going to be in the client anymore; look to the website for that good stuff. We're going to Mount Targon soon, but not before Shurima gets fixed up. Jhin and Shen will get cool lore soon. Taric's on the list too. We're getting there.
