Did the void just corrupt him with arcane power? or? :P Not trying to actually hate or sth, I just started reading the lore bcs it's really REALLY interesting. and as an Aatrox Main, I was kinda confused xD What did the void/does the void did/do to people like Aatrox? And also, is Zoe that powerful that it gave humans the way to defeat the Darkins? Also, how did Aatrox look before beeing trapped by Zoe?
YDy2ZkRq026 votesThe fight against the Void was so brutal and vicerous that they basically got the worst type of PSTD possible from the fight against the Void. So yeah, it kinda corrupted their minds, in some specifc cases their bodies were corrupted, but we dont know if thats the case for any champion, and they were minority anyway.
Zoe didnt trap the darkins, a previous host of the Aspect of Twilight did. In the same way that "our" Pantheon didnt die in Aurelion's color story. But yeah Zoe is pretty powerful. She has shown the power to twist time and space to from portals, manipulate time both in the physical dimension and others dimensions, she ignores laws of physics such as gravity as easily as you can jump, steal spells and can warps the "arcane mathematics", those things werent really explained but it is said that they govern realities so I guess they're important.
About Aatrox's old form, thats the only description given to us:

Wrathof3001 votesWith regard to the Darkin War, as you pointed out their PTSD played a role, however Shurima had also fallen when they finally returned from the war. To their knowledge the royal family was completely wiped out, the only humans they saw "above" themselves, they were god-warriors and each of one them viewed themselves equally worthy of continuing Shurima's legacy.
This is what started their infighting, and eventually regular mortals got caught up in their battles, and became their servants and slaves. As they had very little means of opposing the Darkin until Targon intervened.

YDy2ZkRq021 votesThere are, Aurelion Sol killed one while sealing a Void rift and another one reunited mortals to fight against the Darkin(if we're going to trust Aatrox's quotes, it is possible that he killed this one). Though, an important point is that while all the others known Targonian Aspects merge with thier host, Pantheon takes completle control of his hosts, so while all Pantheon had Pantheon's personality, knowledge etc others Aspects's past hosts had sifferent personalaties. For example, Myilsha, the Twilight host who gave humans the tools to seal the Darkins, pulled out a living heart from a "human" with her bare hands. I higly doubt Zoe would do something like this.
PS: If you are starting in League's lore, I suggest you to take a look at the map: https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/ It can teach you the basics of most regions in Runeterra and give you a good look at the general world. I would say it is much easier to understand most champions if you have seen the descriptions and images of said champion's region in the map.

Fermi Paradox3 votesI guess the void somehow corrupted the darkins' minds, made them vicious and they started fighting each other. They were honorful warriors who fought for the well-being of others, then became brutal and selfish assholes who only had bloodshed and power in their head.
That doesn't just come from fighting for ages, I am pretty sure it's also the void's fault. It made them go mad.

We saw 3 Darkin affected by the Void in Twilight of the gods, Syphax, Shabake and Shabaka, who we physically and mentally corrupted respectively.

I know but I used the term since we all know them by the word Darkin the red demon looking beings. Aatrox and other Darkin were also affected by the Void and that is the reason why they went killing each other as explained.

Rasho has a much weaker physical resistance against the Void too. Ascended had bodies completly filled by celestial magic, which seems to be the magic more effective against the Void, I would say that them having natural ressistance against it makes a lot of sense.

Still the void is supposed to be an never ending spreading nothingness that cannot be stopped.. Some magic shouldn't be able to stop it to that level but in the same time fail to protect the brain....
Fasmodey1 votesI remember somewhere reading a rioter saying that "the Ascended havent ended with going against the humanity just because the Void twisted their mind, it is mostly Fall of Shurima igniting their mortal flaws that were already increased by the Ascension".
After all of this years godlike powers, suddenly them losing their purpose made them think they can do anything because they can. Empire was their everything, it was what they were told. Serve the empire, serve the emperor. Conquer and control for Shurima.
Void plays a role in their madness but I don't think it is the big bite.

And just FYI, the aspects have a much more general and somewhat unsual powers as they can take a humans speech or even sight away! So its not only war knowledge and portal magic like Zoe has
