Can Shyvana At Least Get Her Model Touched Up?

The fact that Riot hasn't even fixed the issues with her dragon form bothers me seeing as they clearly went with the Wyvern type for her. However, her wings are clearly wrong and no such dragon exists with that type of wing span, purely for the fact they wouldn't even be able to achieve lift with it. http://s3.amazonaws.com/leaguesales/images/imgs/000/000/125/original/ironscale-shyvana-04.jpg If she tries to fly with those wings, she going to have flap really hard and end up tiring herself out. http://orig02.deviantart.net/ca4c/f/2013/020/7/1/flame_wyvern_by_tyvik-d5s3pgm.jpg This is a typical Wyvern and as you can see, the webbing of the wings stretch all the way to the body of the dragon, assuring that it can achieve lift fast and efficiently without much effort. If the reason for her wings came to saving pixels in order to achieve maximum computer efficiency then alright I'll forgive that part, due that she is pretty old in the League game; however, it shouldn't take much effort just to fix her wings, even after all this time. So please Rito, for all the Shyvana mains and/or zoologists/crypt-zoologists out there, fix her damn wings.

I never use her default skin.. A few seasons ago I tried her out and fell in love bought every one of her skins lol..

Can Shyvana actually fly? Her in-game ult is only a short leap, and likewise the lore only depicts her flying for a short time. So possibly she only has the flight capacity of a chicken.

In any case, I thought Shyvana's dragon form is supposed to be a bit mutant. It explains why Yvva hated her so much, even in dragon-form.

Yvva hated Shyvana due to the fact that her Father had relations with a human woman. Her "mutation" is that she's a human who can turn into a dragon; however, we actually don't know the full story of how a Human and Dragon can even achieve such a feat let alone know if Shyvana's dragon model is accurate. This is also fantasy, so having you're powerful dragon side be incapable of flying would be quite the bummer, but hey I don't know what Riot has plans for her and for all we know she just needs a Visual Update.

Shyvana's "father" was Ryze, even though they have never met. You are thinking of her old lore, which is no longer canon. No more inter-species coitus.

Shyvana's human features arose because a human mage tried to extract the energies of the World Rune from her while she was still in an egg. The process was interrupted, resulting in the mixture of human and dragon magic which is Shyvana as we know her today. It isn't confirmed that this mage was Ryze, so I should have put a "probably" somewhere in my comment. But it seems likely, seeing as so few characters seem to be interested in the World Runes. Regardless, Shyvana's backstory no longer involves human-dragon romance, and normal Runeterran dragons can't take human form anymore.

Yes, adding a probably would be in order.

While I do understand that the term "Ancient Rune" and shyv's skin being purple could lead you to that theory, you should think about the Rune, nothing said it was a World Rune, and they are known enough to be called so in a lore piece, yet they are called Ancient Rune instead of World Rune in this story, that means that probably isn't a World Rune.

Even if it was, what would be the point of Ryze getting just one small fragment? Ryze collects the World Runes because they are too powerful, but a small fragment that its also in hundreds of other dragons? there is no danger or way to fully recover that Rune, so there isn't any need to do it.

The thing about Shyvana being purple skinned is probably the mixture of magics, the red of the fire dragon magic and the blue of the arcane magic

Fair points. I don't consider to purple skin to be evidence. That is just coincidence. And I think Ryze would be interested in removing the Runic energy as it would stop the magic passing on to Shyvana's own offspring, thus removing a bit of volatile magic from the world. It would be a nice bit of continuity if it was Ryze in Shyv'a backstory, but it is a loose theory at best.

Thing is, i'm not entirelly sure that removing the rune from shyv would stop her from passing the rune. It seems that this rune multiply itself from offpring to offpring, or maybe its something deeply ingrained in dragon's biology, because it seems to be a constant among every dragon species (that might explain the dragon buffs we get by slaying them), it would be quite interesting to get a bit of insight into this, both as from where does this runic magic comes from, and how did it end inside every dragon (also, does Aurelion have another Starfire rune inside him?)

Possibly dragons only ever have one female child, passing on the runic energy to their offspring and slowly losing the power themselves. Then our mystery mage extracting the rune would permanently end that draconian line. Male dragons may only be drones, existing for reproductive purposes but not sharing in the magic of the females. Dragons might be an endangered species in Runeterra.

Aurelion Sol isn't even a dragon. He is a unique creature that Runeterrans and Targonians call a dragon because there isn't a better word for him. To quote: "They call me a comet. They call me a dragon. They have no words for my true form."

What happens if a dragon has more than one female offspring? Female twins? Only one gets the rune fragment?

There does seems to be something special in the male-female interaction, as while Shyv's mother fire is mentioned as "Dragonfyre" many times, her father's is never mentioned. Why is the rune only passed from mother to female firstborn and seems to avoid males? not sure yet. I would love if Riot explained us a bit more about this.

That also means that we are killing only female dragons in the Rift...we are ending the dragons as a species itself even faster than we normaly would, as we are killing the rarest, magic infused ones.

I didnt express myself good enough. Didn't think about Aurelion as a normal dragon, but my question was more along the lines of "Is what Aurelion uses also runic magic?", "Is starfire a different kind of fire, or just upgraded from dragonfyre?"

While Runic magic seems to be what shaped the world, we don't know if different, maybe even stronger World Runes exist outside Runeterra, in other planets

Well from the looks of it, it looks like Riot wanted to go in the direction of Wyvern, which is a winged, two-legged dragon. Like the dragon Harry Potter faced in the Goblet of Fire. https://atolkienistperspective.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/hp-dragon.jpg The problem is that Shyvana's wing membrane doesn't stretch from her body to the tip of her wing, which makes the model look kind of ugly.

I think it's because she's most moving on all fours on the ground of the time, and the so she might retract the membrane when she isn't flying. The only time in she'd have to expand her full wing membrane would be her ult, which goes too fast for most people to really look at. There's also the fact that she is an older champ, so it's likely that they didn't give her a full membrane to easy the animation and rigging process. Honestly, I don't mind it, even more so because she seems like she'd not be the flying type in dragon form, her movements and attacks remind me much more of a dragon who is better at climbing through and around mountains then a Wyvern like Rathalos, or Rathian, two Wyverns who use their flight in the way they fight a lot.

That's why I suggested the Gore Magala approach, those wings not only look majestic and menacing (something like that would look great on mid ult Shyv), but that guy is well known for being able to smash and climb with those big claws.

I'm not sure if Shyv should fly, as she is a human/dragon Hybrid, so it would be strange if her dragon form just resembled a normal dragon or wyvern, while her human form is already quite different from a normal human

Gore Magala is one of my favorite monsters in MH. Between its super mobile and powerful attacks(for its stage in the game), it's ranged attacks that are fun to dodge, and it's slick design, I've grown very fond of it. Fuck the fight on the first fight with it on the boat though, like jesus. Who thought it was a good idea to have a monster half the size of the boat be fought on a boat.

So is mine, no only his design blew my mind (he really looks like a imposing dark lord when walking towards you with those wings waving with the wind), but his frenzy virus was quite something, even more when that Tigrex first woke up again, purpler, with red eyes and even more pissed.

Shagaru magala and Chaos Gore just where the cherry on top, although i haven't managed to face a chaos gore yet.

Thats why I think that Shyv could look like that, really imposing, not like it is right now.

I barely managed to survive the battle on the boat though, it was quite frustrating but amazing at the same time, like the lagiacrus unexpected battle in Tri under water or the surprise tigrex on the snowy mountains on Unite, they wanted to give you a taste of what hell has in store for you and so they did

Shouldn't take much effort? You are essentially asking them to make a new champion, not even just a new skin.

They would have to create a new model from the ground up, texture it, rig it to be animated, which includes boning it, skinning the model, and then rig the bones to be animated. Then they would have to animate the model.

After they have done all of that, human form would look like shit in comparison, so they would probably have to redo that too, they might be able to just get by with a texture update.

Then there is the issue that your pic doesn't have front claws, so they would have to come up with new ideas for animations on autoattacks, her Q, her ult, and movement that would all convey the idea of power and fury without looking goofy. (To be fair, it would be hard to make a rathalos look goofy.)

This wouldn't be a new champion for two reasons:

  • A new champion requires new lore, a new theme, a total voice over, a kit, tons of testing and development, writing, art, splashart, login theme, etc. etc. etc. The OP isn't asking for this.

  • Adding some more "wing" to the model doesn't require total new animations for the entire body, and the whole model to get a new texture. For example on PBE Ournn got some model and texture changes.

Lets try to stay away from slippery slope arguments.

I concede to your first point, I meant to imply that I was speaking from a model/animation perspective. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

In your second point, yes, it would. You would first have to debone and deskin the model, remove the texture, then modify the model how you want. To make it look right you would need to redo at minimum most of the front half of the model.

After that you would have to cv map the model again, which would mean your old texture would now be useless, as it would be fit to the old map.

Then, because the model is now different you would have to make a new bone system, most of the old bones would be worthless now. Then you need to bind the bones to the model, skin it, then rig the bones to be modified.

Now, four legged animations would look stupid on a two legged model, so you would need all new animations. I'm not going to go on about this because it is obvious how much work this would be.

I have done this before, I know what it entails. Ornn wasn't hard because the horns aren't rigged to move. You can change the model a little and save everything. You can basically change textures whenever you want without too much of an issue. You cant change a quadraped to a biped and save much.

There are a LOT of champs that need touch ups on their models. Riot isn't going to do those at least until they finish with the champs who need a complete VGU. From what I understand is it takes too many resources to set aside some champs for a model update while they are still working on VGUs that take a lot of time and effort to fix up. They only have so many people who can work on models and having them take extra time to fix up an older model that will just make it take longer to push out VGUs for other champs. I know it sucks, personally I'd like a day when Wukong's hands were not as big as his arm braces (which are also ridiculously huge), but that's unfortunately going to have to wait till the big time offenders are finished.
