Personally I believe this ship would be really interesting if it was a forbidden love story but not to the point where its painfully generic.This is what I was thinking for the story.(not in order)

1.Former Kinkuo meets a member of Order of Shadow/how they meet 2.Learn more about the characters 3.Akail thinks about her beliefs 4.How Zed,Shen,and Kennen will react/find out 5.Learn more about Darkin corruption 6.Zed uses Kayn's love for Akail to bring her to the Order of Shadow 7.They realize that they have the same enemy(noxians)but yet they are enemies to each other.

And of course we can't forget about: "Kayn,why are the hot ones always crazy".

She has a special interaction for Kayn, which amounts to "Y I K E S".

The quote "why are the hot ones always crazy" already tells me that this ship shouldn't be a thing.

Kayn is someone who would do anything to become stronger, he is a psycho who enjoys killing. I don't see Kayn having any romantic future whatsoever. And Akali acknowledges that. Just because she considers him "hot" does not mean she has any romantic feelings for him, they are too different. She wouldn't sell herself to an ancient evil like Kayn does.

Ship whatever you want, just don't overtly rub it in people's faces(yes I just called the kettle black, shut up im allowed to be a hypocrite).

Personally I ship Kayn and Akali but I also ship Kayn and Jinx, AND Jinx and Ekko, AND AND Ekko and Taliyah, big mess of opinions there.

I think having the characters interact would be good. But having a romantic relationship? No. Kayn needs to establish what actual friendships are supposed to be like first before moving further with ANYBODY. He has a really messed up view of what relationships are supposed to be; everything in his life is warped by his experiences with violence and his resulting desire for violence.
