Why do Jinx, Malphite and Kindred have portraits that are different from their splash art?

Is there any particular reason Jinx Malphite Kindred have a portrait that is different from their splash art? And do these portraits come from an alternate splash art?

Malphite's splash does not show his face clearly enough for a portrait. The portrait is flipped and re-angled to show his face properly.

Kindred is because they're two beings, so they have the split profile pic.

Jinx's splash crops just fine into a portrait, so I suspect the pink background was chosen for contrast. Also, her gun's removed so that her other braid shows.

Zoe's portrait also differs from her splash, but that's obviously because her splash has her hand over her eye.

Malphite's is just flipped, pretty sure. Kindred is 2 entities in one, so it shows both of them, not just Lamb. Not sure what's going on with Jinx.

I'm pretty sure most of the time it's to crop out the background so the character is more noticeable on your minimap/ally bar. Basically, to make them pop more. There's a few other examples too, like Kled and Jhin.

For Kindred, like other people have said, it's because both Lamb and Wolf make up the Kindred, so they put two halves of their masks because there is basically no other way to get two separate characters in a big splash art into that small of a box for the minimap.

Kindred is two people so it shows half wolf and half lamb since those two make up Kindred.

That...is actually a good question.

I personally never noticed it before but now it’s going to bug the piss out of me.
