I really think that riot should recreate old galio, for the simple reason that they changed the champion and only kept the name, not like evelyn and warwick where they kept the basic gameplay of them, Galio doesn't even scale with MR now, i mean that was his thing, am i wrong? 
Yes he does. His passive and W has MR scaling.
Actually new Galio still has kept a lot of gameplay elements from the old one. He still got a ranged AoE-attack,the ability to taunt everyone around him,a damage reduction shield(that can also be given to an ally with another ability),a movement ability and an ult that deals aoe-cc. All while he still scales with MR to some extend.
That being said,the skills do function rather differently.
Steroids are bad for the game and hard to balance...imagine if a tank was stacking ad and was gaining armour....
I love the new Galio, gameplay and lore wise. However I really don't see him as this "anti-magic behemoth".
He gets a minuscule shield for magic damage. It would make more sense if his shield was similar to Morgana's shield and negated a spell completely or one that does magic damage.
