PROJECT Jhin Vs. In-game Jhin
Has anyone noticed that the splash art for PROJECT Jhin is really good? Like exceedingly good? But then you look at the in-game version and it looks less fantastic?
The PROJECT skins were originally really special with just Yasuo having one, and then the first round of champions to get them came around in what, 2015? Part of the glamour of buying a skin is recognizing the crazy amount of time and effort it takes to design the splash, and the PROJECT skins all (arguably) have really good artists working on them. Most of them operate under a unique style with slight variances to give character to these champions. Translated into the game, they actually come to fruition, in some ways. Their abilities change, the sound effects, the interactions...it's pretty amazing how much work goes into making such amazing skins with near perfect execution.
This is my problem with Jhin, especially when he is placed next to Vayne and Vi, both with beautifully executed skins in-game and out. From the splash, Jhin looks amazing with a real foreboding. His character is physically dark like his environment and the colors of his clothes. Vayne's bike from her skin is trashed next to him, he is facing the viewer gun drawn. To sum this all up; he looks bad-ass. Transitioning into the game, the dark, menacing vibe I feel the splash art design is reaching for and conveying is totally thrown out the window, primarily in the color scheme. He looks like he needs to be much darker than what he is. The green on his jacket, especially. In the splash, it is very dark, almost to the point where it is not recognizable that it's green. In-game, however, it screams green. It is not much darker than what is used for the grass in Summoner's Rift. On the same topic of shading, the grays used to color the arm and tops of the guns is far too light compared to the splash.
I get that darkening these colors might flush out the character model in-game to the point where it doesn't stand out or Jhin just looks like one big blob of slightly different dark colors, but the splash clearly references that darkness and embraces it with the character design. The in-game Jhin just kind of looks awkward, in my opinion. Though, this could just be it; an opinion. Some people may love it. I think it is definitely one of the weakest executions of a PROJECT skin, and one that could definitely be improved. Considering where it is right now, it definitely does not look like 1350 skin.
