Kayle’s colour palate: What happened to the fire?

Look, I’m not an artist or anything, but colours are important to me. It’s why Aurelion Sol and Xayah are two of my favourite characters. Old Kayle had 3 main colours, gold and red for the armour, white for the wings. This made her an imposing figure, everything had a fiery vibe to it. Even the white, which gave the impression of being bright. It made her feel like an angel delivering holy, fiery justice to her enemies.

It took me a while to realise why I found the new Kayle so unappealing, but it finally clicked: her new colours lack this fiery vibe. Instead of red, we get maroon, a much darker colour leaning towards the blue side of the colour wheel (sorry, not an artist). With this contrast, the white armour feels washed out instead if bright. The gold accents look noticeably less shiny and yellow, once again more metallic and dull. The white on her wings has blue tints, which in this case only helps to sever this fiery theme of her old colour palate. Her ascended form is no better, if anything it’s worse, as the maroon turns into this brownish gold. The colours are so much duller than what they should be.

I don’t even know how you would fix this (since a red bodysuit would probably look so much worse than the maroon one), but the removal of red and dulling of the yellow golds in Kayle’s colour palate takes a lot out of how I view the character. Colours are such an important part of character design, and with the removal of the fire aesthetic, it feels like Kayle has lost her imposing presence.

I am really confused with the color palette as well. Like she had 3 colors...How the hell did you manage to f it up.

Idk why they added so much green and blue into her and the purple doesn't make any sense.

You're absolutely right. I knew that her new colours looked smudged for some reason... Fiery red, golden armour and white large wings were her thing!

She gets brighter/shinier/more red as she ascends and gets stronger. I'm not really a character designer so I can only give my best guess, but I'm assuming it's to give her a more visual representation of her progression from a kind of basic low level warrior to a strong godly ascended angel at max level. Her wings turn from the basic blue color to a fiery red when she... uses something. I'm not sure what triggers it. Probably whatever her E turned into.

They want to connect her more to Demacia (which means more white, with gold accents) and the purple is meant to mirror Morgana (look where on both of their models the purple is, you'll see what I mean.)
