Xayah and Rakan are references to Mozart's classic opera, The Magic Flute
In Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, a male bird catcher (clothed in feathers) named Papageno spends pretty much the whole story longing to find his one true love, Papagena. At the end of his quest, he finally meets her (another bird-human) and they live happily ever after.
Pretty sure this is where Riot got their idea this time around...
