I just wanted to know what the lore was like before. I joined in November 2014 and recently i've been seeing lots of angry posts about how Riot has been taking FOREVER to do the new lore and how the fanbase is growing with concern... Just wanted to know what it was about and if Riot are actually doing a new one.
Best suggestion is to read it up for yourself. Journal of Justice, Old and new champion lores and League Judgments are what you should look at (generally anything that has the League, Institute of War in it is old stuff and the new stuff is close to that minus the League and Institute). LoL wiki page has them all if you are wondering where to find them.
Have fun and form your own opinion of it, not by what other people tell you.
There once was a thing called the Journal of Justice, it was a continual story that preluded the dominion map. It ended around the start of season 2 which was followed for a long time by the only lore being released being champion bios (they were still actual bios then). We received some lore during events but it never lead to anything. The retcon was about 7 months ago, the 2 years before it had basically no lore development. The retcon deleted the Institute of war (a.k.a. League of legends) making 80% of the previous canon invalid and without a proper explanation to what events would now be canon and what isn't anymore. It was also the time when bios started to be shortened to a few sentences (all with dark mysterious pasts no less). The setting is now unclear since cities can really only communicate with war due to no peace keeping force.
