So what does a Summoner do in the League does he only summon the Champion and keep him in the field, and the Champion does all the fighting and buying alone or does the Summoner have full control over the Champion?

Yes, Riot retconed their own game within the lore of their own game. Dont ask, us lore followers are still trying to connect all the pieces after this rather unprepared shit-storm.

The problem is that it wasnt going anywhere. Ionia vs Noxus was a testing ground to see if gameplay and lore would work for Riot. We got Dominion out of it, and well, we all know how big of a fail that mode was. So their goal is to completely remove the game from the lore, which means removing the core aspects that binded those things together, the Institute. The sad part is, Riot didnt really build up the lore of their world before the retcon, so everthing that was lore related was almost always tied to their games tie, the institute. Now they are trying to make a world for a game that is only loosely tied with it by champions and some locations made into maps. The rescent lore isnt bad, its just not enough and is released in very long time gaps. I have some hopes it would turn out okay, but given Riots track record in handling the lore (which started wright when they made the game honestly) I am worried.

I'm quite worried too. The reason I got into the game was because I was interested in the lore (more specifically, Rengar's lore). I hope they don't end up butchering it.

They got rid of a lore based on the name of the game. League of Legends cannot be called League of Legends anymore LOL.
The old lore was pretty original and i enjoyed it so much.
I doubt we will ever get it back. Once Riot does something they rarely change it back to its original way.

You are incompetent to understand that the devs later stated that Summoners are still in the new canon.
Sneak Dog2 votesErr, they stated there are summoners in the new canon. We, the summoners, are not, for they have also stated that the game is no longer canon. The summoners in the canon might be just another type of spellcaster.
