What about Irelia (-players)?*

So Irelia isnt a champion whos been forgotten, but a champion whos been ignored for a long time now. Of course, there were some changes to some of (her) items, but i dont really think that Riot really thought about the pros and cons for especially this champ. Why should they ? there are champions so much more trending and popular than irelia now and thats ok, if a champ has a 40% pick/ban rate, why dont make a skin for this champ? pretty logic and normal. But why dont try to make a champ popular by playing a bit with the champs scalings or items. These could break the structure and make that specific champ OP or very weak, it also could cause other champs to be op and have a much higher pick/ban rate too when a specific item gets buffed. And we the community and Riot dont want such a breakdown, thats why Riot is always going on slow and easy with big changes and thats how it should be. So what could be changed on a champ without breaking the champ itself? How about a new skin? (The following is all about examples and could be replaced with any other champ etc.) Lets say Riot would bring out Arcade Irelia, so they put in time, effort and money now. They gave us something, what do they get back?

  1. Happy (Champ- X) community, why ? Because they have a new way to represent themselfs now, represent their main champs or just their new badass looking skin on a champ they maybe dont play that much. 2.Money, as long as its a pretty cool and nice looking skin, not only mains would buy,for example Arcade Riven, Cosmic Reaver Kassadin, Project YI and elementalist lux etc. the earnings on this skin would be still pretty high. It doesnt have to be a complete new theme, it just could be a skin from a succesful, already existing one. ( Arcade, Project, Poolparty, Darkstar) 3.(closing champ-x for now) some (forgotten champs) -mains already know how it is waiting very long for a skin, so what a new skin could do is, that itll last at least 2-3 years ( unless its garbage), example: poolparty fiora, pretty badass skin, do i want another one? not really im fine, STILL and will be much longer. So those players wouldnt come and cry for a new skin again for a very long time, so the champ-x can be (forgotten) for quite a bit again. Wouldnt Riot get back more earnings when they (update) a champ whos more popular right now, like you mentioned before? YES! they would. But what i wanted to achieve with this is, that champ-x mains as a part of the community dont get forgotten themselfs and get forced to try out not just new things, which is great btw, but trying out the popular things right now, to not get bored too much which isnt that great at all. I dont want to speak to Riot personally with this and i dont want to be this to be a really huge discussion between group A and B* either. I just wanted to leave my thoughts here and want to hear yours aswell. So pls dont be mean and just write down what you think :).Irelia

i have a feeling she is going to be part of lonia lore update , ahri and wukong were two of the most popular ones and they already got their lore update. so that leaves rest of the...less popular champions like irelia , karma , syndra , lee sin. actually lee sin has some decent stories in his universe page but others dont.

Irelia, more than likely will be reworked very soon, either in the Diver update or as one of the VGUs after big candidates like Urgot and Evelynn are out of the way.

Therefore, Riot may be holding back on content for her specifically for these reasons. If this is the case, they would Also hold back her lore and splashart updates until her VGU this is Riot's preferred way of bringing champions up-to-date.

Skins aren't just a mix and match, they have to make sense. For example: "Let's make a skin for Irelia"

"Ok! What theme?"

"Dragonslayer? Project? Bloodmoon? Which fits?"

"Let's try project!"

"What colour scheme?"

"What kind of blades"

"What kind of robotic implants?"

"Should she have white hair too? What about a visor?"

"No visor! Too much like Project Fiora"

Etc. And you have at least a dozen ppl 'discussing' these simple things, they had multiple meetings on whether or not reworked GP should have a hat or not.

Personally I would love to see Irelia updated because I want to play her, and I am interested in where they take her lore.

When Reav3 and Meddler tossed our their tentative lists of champs they believed needed a VGU following Urgot and Eve, Italia was very high on that list. Within the top 5 I think.

Yep, we just have to see how it plays out. Either they give the Swian and Morde mains their reworks that they always ask for (no offence, I wouldn't mind if they were next in line) whenever reworks are mentioned. Or they do Irelia, which I believe they wanted to test the ranged/ dual sword gameplay, for her rework, as this was the case with Ryze last year, they had an idea for him so they squeezed him in between Taric and Yorick.

Personally I'd prefer they just update Pantheon and give the us the full lore on Targon already :p.

Ryze was done because they still had a lot of assets for him from his previous rework. You need to remember that they originally planned to give Ryze a gameplay and a visual update together,but then they scrapped the VU and just pushed the gameplay update out.

So when they returned to him they still had some stuff from their previous update attempt left,which is why Ryzes second rework only took 3 months,wheras other VGUs take 6(not counting the pre-production phases)

But for all we know they could have assets for most of the Tier 1 VGU candidates lying around. We do know that some champions were based on a drawing alone and others on the concept alone. That could be the case with VGUs wouldn't you say?

We know for a fact, that Pantheon is classed as a Diver, his design is based on Greek/ spartan styled armor and Riot's goal is to have him fulfil a 'god of war' archetype in league. Irelia, has potential to become a champion with dual/ multi swordplay mechanics as her lore indicates she wield her swords with telekinesis. Not sure if is was Reav3 or Meddler who teased that they have ideas for Voli.

I am just pondering which of the Tier 1 VGU candidates made the most out of preproduction, assuming the ones that the team is most excited about and can develop the most ideas for in preproduction are the ones that move forward to actual production and not just the ones that need it the most. Then again, player base requests probably also influence who they look at when they sit down for preproduction.

What I mean with assets is that they likely had already a functioning model(or at least almost functioning) for Ryze lying around.

So they were much farther ahead with him when they started working on him a second time.

Though I think that Irelia is likely among the top candidates and has a good chance to get her VGU next year.

Meddler's announced recently that Morgana and Kayle will not be getting VGU's this year, just wanted to add that.

In general its kinda unlikely for us to get any VGU after Urgot and Eve this year.

Both Galio and Warwick were released 6 months after their previous VGUs(Ryze and Yorick) and its been said that Urgot will likely be released after the next champion. The next champ isn't in the next patch(6.11),though he/she will likely be in one of the 2 june-patches(6.12&13) after that.

So I think the chance is pretty high that Urgot will come out in 6.14 or 6.15,which would be in july,since big releases usually have one patch between them.(there are exceptions,but they are pretty rare) This would mean that Urgot would come out 6 months after the warwick release. If this is true,then we can expect the next rework of his team to take 6 months as well,which would mean that it is likely going to be released in january 2018.

Of course this is all just speculation,so I might be wrong here,I just think the chances for a 5th rework this year are pretty slim.

This post gave us the top candidates for a VGU. In total there are 14 VGU candidates. Since they want to slightly increase the rate of VGUs(as VGUs are currently just as popular as new champions,thus they'd likely try to give us 5 new champs and 5 VGUs each year instead of the current 6/4-ratio),it is actually pretty likely that we'd get all the champs on this list until the end of 2020.

But I think it was mentioned that Irelia is rather high among the top candidates,so she'll likely get it before then.

They said they would rework Irelia from Season 3 :)

As I told you there are a lot more VGU and updates before Irelia, she won't be this year neither next one. I never trust what Riot says.

Yeah,but back then they really didn't have organized rework processes. Now they have 2 organized teams who push out VGUs on a regular basis.

I mean they've been saying they want to rework Yorick ever since his release,so a few people were skeptical when they announced him to be their next VGU. And guess what?We got his rework. Same thing with Warwick and Taric

And right now they are doing this with Evelynn and Urgot

However you are right that it very likely won't happen this year. The 2 teams seem to release a new VGU ~every 6 months(as both WW and Galio were released 6 months after the 2 previous reworks and given our information it looks like Urgot comes out in july,which would place him 6 months after Warwick).So unless one of them gets faster or Riot surprises us with an additional VGU-team,it looks like the next VGU after Eve will come out in january 2018.

There's very little chance she'll get changed in the diver update. It's been said repeatedly that she's high priority for a VGU so If she would be changed in the diver update, it would just be a bandaid fix to hold her over, and Riot's already said they're not doing small changes in the roster updates anymore.
