Life & Demise of Captain Pyke [Theory]
Hi there,
I really love Pyke's set up and it gives me some ground to come up with my own theory of his lore.
Captain Pyke
Captain Pyke existed in times when Gangplank wasn't yet a king and not even a captain. Pyke had Gangplank among his sailors. In time, Gangplank surely become the best of them all and learned a great deal from Pyke's command. But Pyke was obsessed with some strange, mystical things, passion which his crew did not shared. I can't say for sure until more is known of his past, but there must be good reasons for crew to abandon him and for him to blame all Bilgewater. Such things grow with a time, but there always something that triggers the betrayal.
Pyke's Demise
In moment, when Pyke had at last found whatever he searched for, deadly leviathan started to pursue the ship, damaging it and killing men. Monster pursued them to the Bilgewater, putting all nation of thieves in the great danger. Crew couldn't do anything about it as leviathan only needed Pyke and what he has stolen. Young Gangplank as the most influential member of the crew, did what must have been done, he led a mutiny and overthrew Pyke, taking most of the crew with him on boats as ship was too damaged to sail any further. Pyke and his last few dedicated pirates were condemned to die in the jaws of leviathan. As whole Bilgewater watched, in glorious last stand the ship has sunk and Pyke died, but monster of the deep died with him.
Later waters brought dead leviathan to the shore of the slaughter docks of Bilgewater. It was too big to carry it back to the sea.
Gangplank became a captain with many man willing to sail with him. He was in need for a great ship, that's why he has stolen from the Swain. Other bold moves for the sake of Bilgewater and regular thievery soon earned him his title as the king of all pirates and Bilgewater altogether.
Pyke was forgotten.
The Bloodharbor Ripper
Around waters of decayed leviathan, people started to die one by one under the cover of night, leaving horrible murder scenes to witness for those who walk docks of Bloodharbor by day.
But as Miss Fortune's lore suggests, she: > "...dragged the insane Doxy-Ripper from his lair in the belly of a half-dismembered leviathan in the slaughter docks."
It was all before overthrow of Gangplank and The Harrowing. It is last in the list of MF's great doings before overthrowing. Pyke may know something about Gangplank that could have helped Miss Fortune.
Might be updated with Pyke's lore available and some updates in the future.
