What happened to Aatrox?

After reading the new pantheon lore, I was TRIGGERED THAT AATROX GOT DEFEATED BY A MERE MORTAL!!! But, I'm more interested about our favourite darkin boiii - Aatrox According to his lore, he needs physical contact to take control over his new host as seen in his 3 minute not-so-short story - The cage which took me a long time to read because I dont know how to read XD BUT According to some of his In-game emotes and according to his champion teaser, WE CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT HE DOES NOT MAINTAIN PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH THE SWORD I'm super confused. After his fight with Atreus, is our favourite darkin boiii in his sword form or did he regrow his hand by using blood magic?

I DONT NEED SLEEP. I NEED ANSWERS

The story makes it out that Aatrox lost his physical form once his hand is severed, so Pantheon might have left the sword at the location where he killed his body. He likely can keep his form if he lets go of the sword for a short time willingly, but not if his connection is abruptly severed.

It's also possible that Aatrox was already weakened when he fought atreus, after all he tends to burn rather quickly through his hosts.

While Pantheon boosts a lot about being just a mortal, he still has god-like powers to some extent so no need to get mad. Also it was a cheap shot
