Fear the Void, you should: here's why

K, so I don't know about you guys, but the Void is my FAVORITE thing in this game (can't wait for the Runeterrian invasion ;D), and I did a lot of research on this subject, which brought me to this conclusion:

The Void KIND OF works like Aurelion Sol: Aurelion Sol creates stars, which become a part of him, and thus the more stars he makes=the more of him there is. The Void is a sentient being named "the Entity" which is, in itself, a place and a person. The more universes it takes over=the more of the Entity there is. The Entity (I really like that name!) was created soon after our favorite space dragon, Aurelion Sol. When star-boy created the light and life, a counter-part was created to balance it out=the Entity. It is the deconstruction of space and the consumption of life. It devours and corrupts nebulas, galaxies, and even entire UNIVERSES to survive.

At some point, a world was created (you guessed it=Runeterra!), and it was a powerful place filled with immense power. When the Entity found this place, it became eager to consume. Nearly a moment after he began his work, a powerful barrier repelled him from the surface (it was caused by the usage of the world runes, which created a defensive field of arcane energy). Enraged, the Entity never stopped trying to infest this darn world, forgetting that he must consume more worlds to survive. He was growing weaker as the field was become stronger from the magical powers used on Runeterra.

Suddenly, one day, the Entity stopped. He was about to give up on this damned place, when he suddenly felt a falter in the field. Three key elements had weaken the power of the protective force: Galio, Demacia, and Ryze.

  1. Galio was absorbing the magical powers that helped fuel the field.
  2. Demacia was killing off the users of magic, because they were vued as "unpure". and finally, 3. Ryze was (probably by accident) absorbing the power of the world runes that he was searching and collecting, concentrating their power into his body.

At this moment, the Void was created (because before that point, the Entity was simply a being). Firstly, a place started to take form (it kind of resembles the dark dimension from the movie: Doctor Strange). Then, the greatest horror began= the Entity created life. At first, the creatures would die after a few moments, so the Entity controlled their evolutionary formation so that they can evolve from consuming other beings. However, he sent his first Void creature BEFORE that change through a rift that created at the place where the Entity had made contact: Icathia. He named it Kog'maw. Later on, the shuriman prophet Malzahar would come to be haunted by the voice of a powerful being (guess who?), and went the the rift to be corrupted by the Void. What the Entity saw in his mind made him wonder in happiness. He had brought life to Runeterra before...

It was an odd species. that lived in Shurima. It would create tunnels underground, but they were portals-ish. After a bit of searching, he found the queen of this species, named Rek'Sai. The Entity then devised a plan (for the first time ever! lol) to invade Runeterra.

step 1. Make an army step 2. Attack Runeterra step 3. Consume everything step 4. Laugh in Aurelion Sol and Bard's faces

For him, this was his best (and only) plan ever.

Not a bad theory. But if I remember correctly the Void already tried to invade Runeterra a long time ago. It was sealed away by unknown forces but now it's back to terrorize the world... or something like that.

What do Aurelion Sol and Bard even have to do with the Void?

I've always seen the Void as an alien dimension. Half zerg invasion, half lovecraftian horrors.

I actually really really like this. I feel like this might just be spot on correct.

I love your analysis and interpretation of the void, but I don't think "The Entity" was someone that created the void, rather something that was able to control the will of the void. I believe since the dawn of time the void was a part of the universe just like Aurelion Sol.

Reposting my idea from a previous thread:

I feel like the void is more of a will then it is alive. The void makes you have an unquenchable hunger that you need to satisfy, whatever it is. Just like how the black mist isn't really a soul(yes the mist does have souls but the mist itself isn't one), but still demonize and corrupt beings. Just like the mist I believe the void can be controlled(Kassadin). The mist was not able to subdue Mordekaiser and mordekaiser gained the powers of the mist.

I say that because the Void seems too structured of a world to be created by just one being. In the Rek'Sai Q&A we get a glimpse at the world of the void, it seems like a negative, corrupted Runeterra. Two posts I can pull here talk about there being tunnels and several species (and even a hierachy) in the void. So "The Entity" is probably at the top of the hierachy. "The Entity" probably came in afterwards because if he and Sol were created at almost the same time, how would Sol not be able to recognize him in the color story? He said he had never felt a power quite like that.

I'll add some other thoughts since your question brings up a few more interesting points. I think it's safe to assume that the Void is a very diverse place with alot of different species with varying degrees of intelligence. Think for a moment about Earth and how many species there are (8.7 million says google) and how many different crazy sounds they make. Not saying there are parallels between the Earth and the Void but I'm sure the Void has a very diverse population of creatures and entities. Look at the differences between Vel'Koz and Kog'Maw. I like to think that if one of the other Void champions were out and about and ran into Rek'Sai it'd be very much like a human out in the woods running into a wild aggressive bear. If I were Cho'Gath I would most likely be terrified of running into her.

And I think for some champions it's probably an innate ability to speak language (like Velkoz ) and for others (KogMaw ) it's possible they picked up little bits and pieces along the way.

3.) We actually had several discussions about this. Rek'Sai pretty much confirms there is some kind of burrow-able terrain __in the void.

Hope I was able to answer your questions! I can't wait for you to experience playing her :)

Reksai is the Queen of her species, the Xer'Sai. Vel'Koz is on a different level of Void species hierarchy. The information Vel'Koz has on Rek'sai is - if I ever encounter Rek'sai in the wild I should get as far away as quickly as possible :) wait - but then Tremor Sense...I think Vel'Koz would be smart enough to never be in that position in the first place :P

Keep in mind Rek'Sai was created after the announcement of the retcon, so whatever information we got from the void here seems plausible.

  • Demacia does not kill mages, they exile them.

  • Galio can't even absorb Lux's innate magic until she is too close, and she is living in Demacia. I really really don't think Galio's magic absorption is global. He also got hot by a single magical strike of Lux. Even though It wasn't enough to harm him, I believe ridiculously high amount of magic would destroy Galio. Which doesn't happen, which means he doesn't absorb magic globally.

  • You may be right on Ryze but we don't know anything about world runes except they can shape the world.

  • Kog'Maw's name is given by shurimans which makes it hard to believe Entity named him as Kog'Maw.

Obsession of Entity with Runeterra? Yes, It totally doesn't happen with Warcraft.

I think It needs to be something more different. Our main villain shouldn't be equivalent of another fantasy universe's big bad.
