Not sure what board to put this in, but as 
is getting a VU, shouldn't he get a recall animation? I'm not sure if Rito has said anything about this, or if anyone has the same complaint, because I haven't seen any. I just think he should get one.

Gapybo11 votesThey don't give recall animations to champions who get partial VU (model and texture update). Shen is the same as Fiora, Alistair, Kassadin, Maokai and Miss Fortune were. They just update the existing model and animations, unlike complete relaunches, like Poppys, who get a complete fresh model and everything.
I also find that a bit silly, there is nothing actually limiting them from giving these champions recall animations. So it feels a bit half assed on their part. It's not like these champions will see another update in years to come considering all the backlog of outdated champions. Why not do it while you are at it and be done with it, right? I feel their approach to this could be more throughout. If only they added animations for Shen's joke and recall plus a new VO, then he would be completely up to date.

Stop calling RIOT greedy because RIOT can make a lot of errors, but they are definitely not greedy. If they were greedy, they would have raise full-reworked champions' like Sion cost to 6300 IP, because "it's a new champ actually".
RIOT gives recall animations when they do large-scale visual reworks, like Karthus. They don't give them new animations for visual updates, like Shen. With Shen they've just upgraded the quality of his visuals, but he's the same.

meanwhile champs like annie and renekton didn't get one
the difference between both categories is that in the 1st one, the champions got updated animations for the rest of their kits. walk and attack animations too.. meaning that shen should also fit in that category

Actually they are pretty consistent depends on the scale of the VU. katarina, garen, master yi, sivir, nasus, twitch, tristana, recieved a full scale VU, with new VO, new emotes etc
Sona, Renek, MF, Maokai, Singed etc Just recieved new models
I understand that a recall animation is a nice addition but it's not a "must have". They'd rather put those resources somewhere else
btw, annie does have a recall animation

Igotlazy1 votesIt's seems to be an extremely small scale VU akin to Kassadin and Alistar. Model upgrade and a couple of new animations to give it that fresh feel. The other two didn't get recalls either.

No clue why, it just makes so much sense and makes their players VERY happy. They said they wanted to modernize all the champions, but how can you do that without giving just a simple recall animation?!?

Do you really think Riot got like 100 animators? They got 10 max if not less, and those have to work on new skins, new champs, relaunches and so on. If they aren't giving recall animation for every VU they probably don't have all those resources you thinking of. And up to me if to downvote you or not, it shouldn't bother you at all. I just hate the mindset that Riot have to serve you everything on a silver plate, just because... The lack of appreciation for the things they doing is disrespectful. I mean Shen got a model update, just be thankful for it, some champions didn't get even that.

Repeating myself, it's simple just because someone doing it for you, to make YOU happy. You're not taking into account that it takes time and hard work without getting any payback other than a "thank you" from the community. And they can modernize champions just by making them look up to date, recall animation isn't mandatory.
You're the only one who said that it's "just a simple recall animation" . Riot are lucky that people like you aren't asking for "simple voiceover"/"simple face animations"/"simple butt muscle moving "
SlyTactician 1 votesI was wondering about this myself. It seems like such a shame to finally update Shen; yet, the poor ninja didn't receive a recall animation. Heck, his joke animation for his first taunt still has no animation oddly enough...
While it's great to see one of my mains updated, I'm sure all of us Shen mains would like to see an animation or two for the joke and recall sequences. Whether it be something as simple as him spinning his spirit blade or striking a simple; yet, neat and graceful pose - anything would be good at this point to go along with the release of the updated Shen.
