Can they please stop killing characters and replace them with new ones

For one, Im not saying the new story writers or lore teams are bad. I think they can write great stuff. Some of this new lore wouldnt even be bad if it was stand alone lore for a new character.

My problem is, why do they have to completely replace characters every single time we get an "update"

Varus is now basically removed from league and replaced with a hunter. Why couldnt they just expand his old lore? You couldve made him a hunter that became an Ionian archer, which defended the temple during the invasion of noxus? He couldve still been the family man that lost his village and family?

I dont like this. Yordles were a fun race and now they are basically prosecuted and dont even look like yordles anymore. Volibear is now a god for some reason. (okay he wasnt very popular at all and had few lore in general, but still.)

Rammus is turning into a demi god now. Why cant it be more like Caitlyns and Viktors lore? Essentially the same, just expanded upon and with more flavour added.

New full lore is now out. I'll break down the differences for you:

Differences:

  • Varus is the name of the Darkin
  • A Darkin was in the Pit of Pallas as opposed to some random gloppy stuff
  • Three beings make up Varus: Valmar and Kai (hunters/hosts), and the darkin itself
  • The three are struggling for control
  • Valmar was gay for Kai, instead of having a wife and kids
  • Valmar and Kai didn't live to guard the temple, instead they only happened to be there completing an old tradition.
  • Varus has a sister (female Darkin maybe)
  • They aim for different things: The Darkin aims to wake his kin, the hunters want to separate from Varus to live the rest of their lives together.

Same:

  • Hosts are still Ionian
  • Host's lover was still killed by Noxians
  • The Pit of Pallas is still cannon (Pallas was retconned to the name of the city instead)
  • Host still voluntarily accepted the being in the Pit for vengeance
  • Still was an Archer
  • Still defended the Temple when it was under attack.
  • Still wears demon pants
  • Still slaughtered Noxians out of vengeance after fusing.

I hope this goes to show that characters weren't thrown out, only made more cohesive with the rest of the world.

Props to you lore lovers. I've been playing since season 1 and I have no idea what the lore backgrounds for every champion is. Not even my mains.

the short answer is : No.

Just like Disney and EA they have gone for the path of profit and destroying the heroes we already cared about we being especially those like me who played Varus from his release.

RIOT Doesn't care about any of us, and let's just start being honest here ... this is 100% TENCENTS fault. TENCENT took over 100% ownership and that's where it began.

This is all TENCENT cares about Profit and dismantling take down and re-writing in sub par mary sue manner everything.

TENCENT wont stop until the entire game is a new game.

The retcon has been happening bro, old lore is being changed and if Riot decides on a new direction for the champion then that's what they're gonna do.

Well, some champions take up too much room for other champions not to step on their toes. Eg. Poppy used to be a black smith, delivery girl, ambassador, and a tough and nails yordle. Now she is just a delivery girl, which has opened up room for a black smith champion Ornn, an ambassador, and a super serious yordle.

While other time a champion needs to change to fit into the new lore, this will be your Varuses, your Warwicks, etc.

I actually really liked the new lore for Rammus. They gave a "hey this champ exists, cool" lore to the most blank and chill champ. Also, don't complain about Rammus being an Ascended or whatever, he was literally nothing before. And it's funny to think that Rammus is a big deal to some Shurimans, but Rammus himself is just "is it food? no? cool, cya".
