Mordekaiser's eyes

So, the Mordekaiser rework is finally on its way, and while I like some aspects of it, for example the theme song sounds awesome, there is something that is bugging me.

The most important thing that made Mordekaiser's appearance stand out, at least to me, was his stinging, bright red eyes. They really seemed to embody his absolute and unwavering will. I'd like to hear the reasoning for the change to the pale, small eyes. The red eyes were something that separated him from the rest of the Shadow Isles champions. So I'm wondering why are the eyes now more like those of a Shadow Isles champion, while Mordekaiser is no longer actually associated with the Isles?
