Dragonslayer Garen Needs to Happen
Hi there, before I get into the main body of the idea, a little about myself. I'm a filthy Garen main. I have roughly 475,000 mastery points with the human helicopter himself. Some people call me Chille Gon Garne. Rivens and Irelias quake with fear when I approach. Many of them uninstall from the sheer pain. My favorite thing that happens on the rift is when I'm spinning and get hit with a Poppy ult. Use your imagination to figure out why that's so enjoyable to watch.
The warring kingdoms skin was great, though sadly I was unable to get it during availability. However, my idea is not necessarily born out of lament for missing out on the latest skin. For a long time now, I've had this concept of Garen clad in dark steel with fire and lava radiating from the seams, with slicked back hair, and equipped with a sword that would make even the fiercest dragon quiver. I was...mildly disappointed when the other prominent Demacian got the dragonslayer look, Xin Zhao. Lorewise and thematically, it would make perfect sense for Garen to join the ranks of fiery doom lizard hunters. Most importantly, it would make yours truly empty his wallet in a heartbeat.
Now that I've argued for the skin's existence, let me go over some conceptual ideas that I've dreamt up --- expanding on the brief previous mentions. Keep in mind these are not things I'm demanding, as in THIS IS HOW IT MUST BE! Not at all, it's just a framework of ideas to serve as a foundation that can be improved upon. No good suggestion is without specific details.
Equipment: Let's start with the armor. As far as coloration is concerned, it's fairly simple. Black, or really dark tarnished grey (to indicate that he's taken a blast of dragon fire to the chest like a man, charring the original material). Of course we would need some dark red and orange bits scattered about the suit as icing on the cake. I honestly would not mind burning up 1820RP for this, so the graphical details worked into the effects --- such as flames, or floating cinders --- could be quite extensive. As for shape, I think it would be best to avoid dramatic spikes. Stick with the classic plate mail concept. For example, the pauldrons on the dreadknight skin are very nice. In fact, the entire skin itself serves as a point of reference. But don't make the mistake of assuming the idea is just a retextured dreadknight. There's much more to it. Sword: Not very picky about this particular item. As long as it doesn't deviate too much from the classically pleasing broadsword, rather than some overly fantasized thing that a crazy blacksmith dreamed of while on LSD.
Ability Art & Sound: The best way to describe this category is to work our way down from Q to R.
Q: Very much like the original, but perhaps instead of a yellow aura on the blade upon activation, it gets a nice low intensity flame spiral. It would also be nice if the impact sound was darker, and resembled that of crashing brimstone, while still keeping the metallic twang.
W: Not much to be done here. Red version of the original effect surrounding Garen, perhaps with a slightly reshaped shield to appear more draconic.
E: The signature move. Imagine an impressive flame trail behind the mighty sword as it travels in an arc. Like a crashing meteor, tickling the ears with the sound of an object ablaze moving at high velocity.
R: My favorite. The most satisfying ult in the game (also the most tilting for the recipient). The first thing I thought of was a giant, fiery stalactite (yes I used the right one) falling onto the unfortunate enemy's head with a nice meteor-like impact crater beneath them. That's some rough justice...I may prefer the magic sword, but it was an interesting idea nonetheless. The villain icon also needs to be overhauled to appear and sound more menacing to strike fear into the hearts of those brazen enough to attack your team mates.
One last idea, and this is wishful thinking not meant to be taken seriously, only for teh lulz. Get Jamieson Price to record some additional lines befitting a dragon slayer.
I hope you all enjoyed reading, and perhaps some of you would like to see this skin as much as I would. Garen may not be the most popular champion, and yes he did just get a skin. But if there was ever one next on the list, I believe he would make a great addition to the dragonslayer series.
Feedback or additional ideas appreciated and welcomed.
