So, did Jhin kill Zed, Garen, Vi, and Sona?

As the title says, is it canon? Or was it strictly just for promotion

Promotion. If any champion would die then their lore would accomodate that. Look at Gangplank's lore. He "died" and was unavaiable for a few days. He then returned to League after a doctor managed to save his life. That's why he received a new model and his classic skin became exclusive.

Everything is Runeterra, and more specifically Valoran, is happening in the "present" time:

  • Shurima's Emperor, Azir, returning
  • Taliyah returning to Shurima after she knows the ancient emperor was revived
  • Aurelion Sol returning to Runeterra to fight off the invasion
  • The harrowing every year. It's spreading further every year.
  • ...

At least that's the way they are heading with the new lore. The old lore was just a big mess of loose stories.

It was his imagination.

No, it was a promotion for Jhin using a variety of champions. Those champions are still alive, and he'd only really be interested in killing Zed and Sona at the moment anyway.

No, he didn't.

It was him imagining how he would perform his debut. Unfortunately Riot spoiled his arrival and he never came to perform those pieces of art.
