Are there really people arguing that XAYAH doesn't work with the 'edgy Star Guardian' aesthetic?

Xayah's entire thing is being edgy and rebellious.

"Spiders are my spirit animal." "I hate flowers. Tiny skulls stuffed with twigs, on the other hand... " "Cloudy days are my favorite." "I prefer to work at night, because, y'know, the sun? Bright? Yuck!" "Death was nice and peaceful. Thanks for ruining it."

I think the 'Anti-Star Guardian' thematic fits her rather nicely. Much better than the regular Star Guardian aesthetic (Which personally, is pretty boring and overdone at this point, but that's a totally different conversation to be had).

Zoe and Rakan can be debated both ways. But Xayah definitely works for it.

I think the problem here is that Xayah and Rakan just don't come off as particularly evil, at least not in their regular skins. And Zoe herself isn't even edgy, she is chaotic and dangerous, heck it's hard to argue that she is even evil, given that she is so out of touch with human morale.(you shouldn't confuse stupdity for malice).

lmao right everyone always complains that she's too edgy but at the same time say she doesn't fit the edgy SG aesthetic and it's ????

xayah's literally "The Rebel" - she was corrupted first, and then rakan didn't want to lose her so he went with her into corruption (which fits normal xayah/rakan lore btw), making them half good half evil together

also, in the voice lines, you can kind of see how rakan is trying and failing at being edgy (he's basically runs around calling people nerds)

there's been theories about zoe being chosen as a SG who was driven insane by grief, which kind of makes sense because zoe seems super chaotic and detached from reality

although I do think that giving morgana or evelynn the "pure evil SG" skin would've made more sense

Xayah works with edgy; Xayah does not work with evil. Not convincingly. She's too much of an edgy brat to really play the whole evil card the way, say, Thresh, does. Or Swain, Darius, Sylas, Xerath, etc. do.

The past couple skin lines we have gotten are dark and edgy.

KDA Dark Star Battle Boss Project Elderwood

Star Guardian was supposed to be the break from that, it's magical and bright and colorful and instead we got slapped with more dark and edgy.

Does Xayah fit dark and edgy? Yea, but nobody wanted it in the first place.

There shouldn't have been an edgy Star Guardian aesthetic to begin with. They should have been full blown, independent villains for the series. Not Riot's cop out "we can't have anything happy, so let's TARNISH IT WITH EVIL AND CORRUPTION AND DESPAIR" approach to storytelling.

I appreciate the effort that went into the Xayah and Rakan legendaries with the dual voice lines and all, but Zoe probably should've gotten the legendary for story reasons. I'm much more interested than what she has to say than Xayah and Rakan tbh.

I don’t know if most people have a problem with Xayah being “edgy,” so much as she’s a fallen Star Guardian and not named as such. Additionally, everyone was expecting bright and cheerful colors. Syndra’s edgy. Jinx is nuts and just not wild about the sparkles and positivity. In the lore, she’s even super duper not eager at all to do Star Guardian Funtime stuff, like having the sleepover in the color story. They’re still bright and cheerful as far as how they appear, though. In turn, they’re both still loved by the Star Guardian community.

A counter argument to Xayah being to "edgy" for a Star Guardian skin, is Misfortune and Syndra. If you read the short story they both have that kind of edgy arrogance to them. They may be pretty shiny skins, but that doesn't mean that their personalities coincide with a bubblegum exterior.

Also in the short, it talks about an old Star Guardian who was corrupted by sadness, because her sisters' light had gone out. Zoe being a portal jumper, and representing twilight itself - not to mention she's been around for millennia - it's easy to conceive her falling from the light to darkness due to heart break. A dying star if you will. What do you get when a star dies? A neutron star, a black hole, or theoretically what's called a black dwarf - all of this depending on the density of the original star itself.

On top of that, from the interactions video it would seem that Xayah was a Star Guardian that was killed by the mistakes of other Star Guardians, and the manipulations of Zoe turning her against her friends. Since we know Xayah is the rebellious type, the idea of her being corrupted due to her skepticism of the system at work is not so far fetched.
