@riot Splash Art Timelapse?

Orangechrisy··1 votes·1,208 views

Hello, I really like art even though I'm not that good at it and the splash art that is used for league really intrigues me. I feel like it is incredible artwork and that it is amazing. I know I probably can't do anthing like the splashes for drawing, but I would like to know how you guys do it. I was wondering if it is possible for someone to make a Timelapse or some sort of video on how you guys make the artwork for league. I think it would b really cool to watch and I can learn how it is done because someday I would also like to make art like it. Thanks, Orange

If you go to the League of Legends Youtube channel and search 'Art Spotlight', it gives you a timelapse of a bunch of concept art and the eventual splash art for a certain champion. They don't have every champ, but they have a bunch of them, most of the old champs.

Ah, those are very cool and I no w kind of understand how the artwork is made. It is very sped up though so a couple times I had no idea what was going on or what they were doing. It would be nice if riot did something like this, but slowed down a bit so it is easier to follow and maybe a commentary on on how they are doing a certain area or what tools/methods are being used to achieve some effect. Those are really cool though. Do you know what program was being used?

They were and are using Photoshop to create those splashes with (sometimes) some extra unique techniques involving lighting and 3D stuff using other softwares. But mostly Photoshop. And of course, in case you don't know, digital art like this isn't done by mouse, but with a tablet and pen.

Riot artist Keinan Lafferty (Who goes by the name Riot Knockmaw) has a YouTube channel with wonderful and very insightful tutorials and vlogs. Here are a few videos of him painting an unofficial/'fanart' Ahri splash and explaining the process that went into it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrVqNXdRysg&list=PLb0T1WxEbeAIX__krnmGiqEY7WJAYsvEX

He was previously a Splash Artist at Riot but moved to a Concept Artist position- He's known for things like the first Ahri and Talon classic skin splashes, Fizz's splash, Diana's splash, Battle Bunny's Riven concept and splash, Maokai's VU concept, Miss Fortune's updated Waterloo and Cowgirl skin designs and many, many more. :)
