I don't know if anyone else sees it, but personally i think his arm holding the sword looks broken, or something, its an abnormal pose, its nothing big just seen it and now can't unseen it.

His hand is just turned upside-down, it's not like it's not possible to do such a thing. I'd say it is a bit uncomfortable if you were thrusting a sword in the ground like that though.

Hold out your arm, now turn your hand down like giving a thumbs down. It's just not a common way to see hands.

It looks to me like it's just a pose. As if he's putting his sword into the ground.

A lot of swordplay is in the wrist, and that's actually a somewhat neutral pose for those buster swords. They're quite heavy, and often times it's faster to put the sword into the ground and maneuver yourself around it than it would be to attempt to move the sword into the way of the attack you're trying to block with it. Even for people like Aatrox, it's not hard to imagine a moment where they need that level of extra speed (moving around it, not with it) for certain scenarios. And for that matter, he appears more than ready to punch (or maybe claw) the shit out of his assailant for a counterattack.

The more upsetting part to me is, this is literally Justicar Aatrox. >.>

It's not an abnormal pose, you can do it yourself by stretching out your arm and turning your wrist into the thumbs down position and boom you're doing the same hand pose as Aatrox in the splash art.

Wow I never realized Aatrox is left handed I guess lol

To the main topic, it is definitely do-able but I can't tell if he is supposed to be planting it down or lifting it up.

If he was lifting it, then doing it at a slight angle would make a lot more sense.

If he was planting it down, then the hand holding the sword would also make more sense if it was holding it on the other side for much better force since he has his arm perfectly straight out.

Ya, it isn't the best way of doing things but there is technically nothing that breaks the pose.
