Do we all have a little Void in us? Something in Rek'sai's new color text.

So, with the launch of the Universe site, a lot of champions have had their Lore updated or gotten new color texts, which is great. But I specifically want to talk about something I noticed in Rek'sai's piece.

The gist of it, if you haven't read it yet, is that a group of travelers are crossing Rek'sai's hunting grounds. They get attacked, and see this:

> Behind him, the stone cliffs had been cut apart by burrows into a pattern of intersecting circles. From them, a bizarre connection of ink-black energy flowed and dripped like a sticky liquid. And through this matrix, an incompressible reality bent and twisted as someplace else prepared itself to enter our world. Hidden in this isolated valley, the true lair of Xer’Sai was a half-constructed tunnel. A tunnel to the nightmare place where these creatures had been born, and fouler things waited hungrily at this unfinished gateway to our world.

So, that sounds like a Void portal. Maybe Rek'sai's purpose is to great one big enough for something even larger to come through? But how would she construct that? Well...

> Jaheje watched as Rek’Sai opened her maw and pulled a sticky ball of dark energy from Shahib’s ruined body. The ball rotated as tendrils dripped to the ground, sticking and stretching as Rek’Sai manipulated it into a pattern, which she attached between two of the burrows.

Rek'sai apparently pulls some sort of "dark energy" out of the corpses of her victim. And "ink-black energy" is what the "half-constructed" tunnel is made out of. So, somehow, within the bodies of Runeterrans, there's some sort of black goop that can be converted into a portal to the Void? I don't think there's anything special about Shahib, he's described as simply being an experienced traveler and teacher, so it could be within everyone.

Of course, there's nothing concrete yet, but I think this is an interesting hint as to exactly what the Voidlings are trying to do, and how they're trying to do it. My guess would be slaughtering people for their goop to summon the big Void daddy, whoever that could be, but I'm sure there are quite a few interpretations. And what could that dark energy be anyway?

Yeah I wondered about that too. Makes me think that human sacrifices might be necessary to open portals to the void(explaining the dagger that Malzahar is carrying around)

I think Rek'Sai is more of a convertor than an extractor. She takes life-force and makes it serve her purposes instead of just extracting it.

So Rek'Sai is building a massive Void-Portal. Woops. I suddenly got reminded that I don't want to live anywhere in Shurima when that thing blows open. I heard Lokfar is a nice place at this time of the year...

With the latest universe page describing the Void as a horrible place of biomechanical machine-life, it's probably some kind of conversion process. In this instance, Rek'sai is converting living matter into some kind of transdimensional doorway. Befitting of something with insect-like properties, serving a larger purpose from whatever masters command her and her children.
