League's Lore: what are they fighting for?

Since the lore got all changed, the summoners are no longer cannon and a lot of sense was lost in the story of the game, i noticed that between all the champions' lore changes, and all the small stories between champion updates there is something that wasnt explained as far i know:

What its the Summoner's Rift? Why are people defending/attacking the core? Its there any motivation at all? Power?Knowledge?Revenge?Glory?Money?A sadist wish of dying as much as possible in 30 minutes?

All the new lore showing up tells cool stories, but if we dig a little about it, it starts to get strange (like the last Ekko comic, wich i liked it until i started to think "why the guy killed the kid?""why is Ekko killing people eternally in the top of a rift?"

I honestly want to know what's going on with the story of this game, because all i see are elusive answers from part of the Lore team that are adding cherries to an empty cake.

New lore goes like this.

In a world called Summoners Rift on the top of Non-summoner related mountain a battle is waged by complete randoms to fight one another to please the all powerful God know as LC$bigplayz.

And only by destroying noobs can they hope to restore the balance or maybe not and save the world unless nothing is going to happen.

The end.

Summoners Rift does not exist in the new canon. It's that simple.

Riot have essentially wiped the slate clean where it comes to the in-setting League of Legends and are trying to tell a far more ground-level story where the Champions exist in their world in a far more naturalistic fashion rather than being global celebrities by default. As they're obviously not going to alter the game to fit the new story, this has led to them effectively divorcing "League of Legends" from the setting and narrative behind it, with nothing that happens on the Rift having any bearing whatsoever on the world of Runeterra. Some characters who have been in the game since its release - Soraka and Jax to pick two at random - probably don't even know that the other exists in the new canon because there's no organisation like the League to bring them to each other's attention.

Summoners Rift contains some allusions to things that have taken place or exist in Valoran, but ultimately it's just a map in a videogame now.
