So. I was just reading Swain's lore. He is my main mid so i just wanted to reread it. And then I asked myself, how is it that Swain is a mage? I mean, they never mention anything of it in his lore.

We simply don't know. Swains background is a complete mystery and so are the origins of his abilities.
However it is possible that Beatrice is the origin of swains powers,as she doesn't look like a normal raven. There is also the fact that sion was warned to "not trust ravens",so it is possible that swain or at least beatrice was already alive around the time when Jarvan I died.
It's probably Beatrice.

Magic is, while maybe not common exactly, openly used and widely practiced. He doesn't need a REASON to be a mage, he just has to have some degree of natural talent, learning, or combination thereof.
As for the Raven...puppet-master theories have been around for a while and are a definite possibility I personally prefer the idea that Beatrice is some manner of demon that Swain has made a pact with, more of a partnership than outright posession
