What ever happened to updated splash art from 2015 VGU Champs

As 2020 draws near I was looking at some of the splash art for champs that had gotten VGU's and noticed they look nothing like what's in game. Some are just smaller differences like Golden Alistar or Sivir and Annie's Chinese Splashes. But Gangplank Specifically his Sailor skin really does not represent what you're actually getting in game. As we reach the 5 year anniversary of some of these VGU's is there any update as to what happened and if they are still being worked on? Even if the answer is only "it's still in the pipeline" it would be nice to have confirmation that it is on Riots radar.

I think they mentioned that they wanted to return to updating some of these splash arts, they've been simply very busy due to the increased rate of VGUs, especially since Kayle&Morgana had so many skins. However the rate of VGUs did decrease recently and some of the more recent VGUs don't have that many skins, hence why they might be able to update some skin splashes.

I wish they'd have kept the 10 year anniversary fan art skins as an option for veteran players. Or they could accept fan art to become the official artwork for that skin. There was something wholesome seeing all of that variety and knowing it was done by actual players.
