Ok so today I was playing an ARAM and I was sitting around after the game ended and then a voice started talking, it was Lissandras voice, although confused I listened, it told the history of the Freljord and so I don't know if this is teasing for an event or champ or if its always been there, because I generally don't just sit there after the game ends. Has anyone else experienced this? Because it was pretty cool

Lissandra always says that at the end of a winning game on the Howling Abyss. I've elaborated on the history of the Freljord like this once before but I'll go over it again because it's fun to do so. It might not matter to you but I still like writing this stuff up so eh, whatever!

So many thousands of years ago the Freljord was populated by humans, trolls, ursine, yetis, and a variety of widelife aside from that, who all struggled for survival in the harsh climate. It was, and still is, a barren and bitter part of Runeterra. There was no unity between the tribes of humans, trolls and ursine, and people died every day from conflict, death by animal attacks, and the bitter cold. Anivia the great cryophoenix lived and died as the centuries rolled by, returning to life as her the natural way of things. This is what the Freljord looked like for a long, long time.

Enter the Frozen Watchers: a race of peculiar beings with immense magical power. No one's really sure where they came from, but they came and they saw the humans as being promising. Utilising their magic they transformed the humans, giving them immortality, bodies of ice and magical power of their own. In exchange for these gifts the Watchers asked for the eternal servitude of these humans, whom they dubbed "iceborn". Many thousands of humans were elevated this way, with perhaps the three most notable being the three sisters Avarosa, Serylda, and Lissandra. More on them later.

The Frozen Watchers had the iceborn carry out their will, and their will was to build an empire. For what reason no one really knows to this day, but to the iceborn it was their simply directive as spoken by the "Seeker"; the one who acted as their spokesperson to the iceborn. They built huge fortresses like the one you see at the Howling Abyss and conquered a great deal of Runeterra, plunging the world in to an ice age. To what extent they expanded their mighty empire isn't known, but given how Gnar, a yordle living in the primordial jungles of Runeterra encountered a being much like a Frozen Watcher, it's safe to say they went very far south in their conquest.

The empire was fine for a time, with the iceborn crafting great wonders of masonry and weaponry through the use of True Ice; a magical ice that never melts and contains powerful magic by itself. Eventually though, one of the iceborn grew discontent with how the Frozen Watchers were doing things. Avarosa was her name, and she proclaimed to her brethren that they should not be slaves to the will of these mysterious beings, and with her sister Serylda they rallied their people, engaging in civil war against their Frozen Watcher masters. The war was long and bloody and culminated at an immense bridge far in the north of the Freljord. Many iceborn died but they won the day, throwing the Frozen Watchers off the bridge. From that day on the bridge was named "The Howling Abyss", in remembrance of the defeat of the Watchers who were sent "howling in to the abyss". With that done Avarosa became the Frost Queen of the iceborn and ruled their empire for a time, but things wouldn't stay the same forever.

Serylda didn't agree with Avarosa's ways and Lissandra, their third sister and the former Seeker, hadn't liked the rebellion at all. When she was a human she had been blinded by an Ursine that mauled her eyes, and thanks to the Frozen Watcher's magic she gained the ability to see through the ice and snow at her feet. She was more loyal to them than anyone, and she felt this whole thing had been a great betrayal. With the battle lines drawn a new civil war broke out: The War of the Three Sisters, with Avarosa, Serylda and Lissandra all on opposing sides. The outcome isn't clear, but Avarosa was killed, Serylda's fate remains unknown, and the Freljord was broken. The iceborn's empire collapsed and the scattered tribes went back to their old ways of warring against one another, with the iceborn eventually dying out as they couldn't procreate to create new iceborn; their children were very much humans with only residual magic from their parenthood.

Lissandra set about to restore the Frozen Watchers to power, and corrupted the Frostguard Tribe to this end. She used them to destroy the Freljord's ancient history from all records and claim ancient treasures of the empire, ensuring that the world would forget the Watchers in time while she meticulously planned their return. To the outside world she used her ice powers to change her appearance as time dictated; naming an heir, killing them and then impersonating them in an endless cycle.

Now in the modern era the tides of war are looming in full force as the Freljord's ancient history is coming back in full force while the Freljordians rally behind two banners in the name of unity and conquest; Ashe of the Avarosan tribe seeks to unite all the Freljord in the name of peace, so that all Freljordians might live lives free of death in the bitter cold north. Sejuani of the Winter's Claw tribe seeks to unite the Freljord to pursue conquest, and take all that their people will ever need. These two descendants of Avarosa and Serylda are empowered with lingering iceborn magic in their veins, and Lissandra, now known as the Ice Dervish to the outside world, has allied with Ashe with the plans to destroy all enemies of the Watchers from the inside. Elsewhere in the Freljord the other races are rallying too, as the Ursine have pledged themselves to the Winter's Claw's cause under the guidance of their chieftain Volibear and the Trolls have begun rallying under the banner of their first king Trundle, who is allied with the infamous Ice Witch; the true identity of Lissandra.

Right now civil war has erupted and a clear winner isn't in sight, but either way situation in the Freljord will only get worse until the war's final crescendo, whenever and whatever that may be.

That's pretty much it as far as I remember.

This was always the case and it only happens if you win the game.

Well, it was a reminder of the Freljord event which took place, well... 3 years ago? Has it been this long already?
