Laughing Fish's top 10 most powerful champions (updated)

6 months ago I created a list of what I believed to the be the 10 most powerful champions (http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/a2ZFYXv5-laughing-fishs-top-10-most-powerful-champions-lore?show=new) Since then, however, lore has changed, new champs have been released, and I have severely increased my knowledge of League of Legends' lore. SO without further ado: Here is my updated list of Runeterra's most powerful champions.

#10: Anivia The Cryophoenix Anivia is more than just a glorified chicken. She has seen empires rise and fall, and watched seemingly unstoppable forces fade away. She is the keeper of ice magic, and controls the power of the cold itself. Storms start and stop at her word, and each of her lifetimes heralds in a new age for the Freljord. She prefers to stay out of the affairs of humans, but corruption of the frost has forced her to intervene in the war for the Freljord.

#9: Azir The Emperor of the Sands SHURIMA! Your emperor has returned! Azir was slain millennium ago by his slave, Xerath. But death could not contain him. Chosen for accession before his death, Azir was brought back by the blood of Sivir, his last living relative. He has the power to control the sand, and can build soldiers to do his will out of the desert itself. He has brought back the ancient magics of Shurima, and hopes to restore it to its former glory.

8: Nasus The Curator of the Sands

Much power. Very ascended. Wow. He is one of the ascended, and is the ancient guardian of Shurima. He has limited control over time and the life force of those around him, and is able to siphon their lives to strengthen his own. He is immortal, and has gathered thousands of years worth of experience.

7: Xerath The Magus Ascendant

His power is SHOCKING! Xerath is a being of pure arcane energy. The product of a failed accession, Xerath is no longer bound by flesh. Once a slave, Xerath orchestrated the downfall of Shurima, and ended the reign of Azir. Things were not all lollipops and giggles though, as Xerath himself was captures and entombed in the process (although it did take not one, but two ascended to beat him, and even then they only managed to temporarily contain him). But after thousands of years, Xerath has returned to this world. He. Will. Be. Free.

6: Chogath The Terror of the Void

Contrary to popular belief, Cho'Gath does not live under a bed, he comes from the Void. Cho'Gath is one of the only creatures to summon himself into this world. He hijacked the Leagues summoner magic and brought himself into Runeterra. Thinking they had trapped the monster, they put him to work fighting in the league. They came to realize later that Cho'Gath allowed himself to be captured, and only remains as it gives him an easy source of prey. He is a vile creature who grows in strength and power as he eats. and he eats A LOT! Cho'Gath is no mere beast though. Underneath his gruesome and violent nature lies a cunning and deadly mind.

5: Malzahar The Prophet of the Void

Warning: Fighting Malzahar might will result in Space Aids. Prophet of the Void has a connection to a being on the other side of the rift. He can create portals to the void, and can summon horrors to do his bidding. Given his way, he would bring monsters into this world that would consume all light and life. If he is not stopped, there will but nothing left but darkness.
#4: TahmKench The River King There is something fishy about Tahm. Tahm Kench is a demon with an insatiable appetite. He lures people to him by promising them their deepest desires, only to feed on their anguish as everything they love perishes. Two-coats will give you exactly what you asked him for, but your journey will be met with only despair. Throughout history Tahm Kench has swam, singing his sickly-sweet song and preying on the foolish and greedy. His strength is limited only by the greed of his victims. And there will always be somebody greedy for him to feed off of. #3: Aatrox The Darkin Blade His work is no hack job. One of the last of an ancient species known as Darkin, Aatrox is a fearsome and deadly creature. Aatrox has been seen at most of Runeterra's most bloody battles since before written history. He thrives off of violence, and feeds the fires of war. Nations have risen and fallen by his hand, and he continues to reshape man's morality like putty. His symbol is even found by the cranks on summoners rift, suggested he may have caused the rift in the first place. As long as men are violent, Aatrox will continue to thrive.
#2: Karthus The Deathsinger What is that sound? It's the pounding of creation's hammer on the anvil of time. The Deathsinger is arguably most deadly being in the league (he was ranked number one on my old list). Karthus holds the key between life and death. He has formed an ever growing army of the souls of the dead. Even if you manage to destroy one of his soldiers, he simply brings their souls back to this world. He is the only known wielder of oblivion, which is the essence of death itself. But that is not all: Karthus is a master manipulator. Despite the horror of his ideals, he manages to convince those to willingly give themselves to death. Every victory for you means nothing while The Deathsinger lives, but every victory for him makes his armies grow larger. So why is he no longer number one? There is one champion that I think could end his reign:

1: Bard The Wandering Caretaker

The Wandering Caretaker is B-B-B-B-Bard to the bone. Bard is a celestial caretaker that exist outside of space and time. He ensures that the universe continues on its correct track. The thought process of this strange creature is certainly beyond us. We know only that he sees what was and what will be, and knows how the actions of an individual will effect the world for thousands of years to come. Why is he at the top of a list of gold-like beings? Because all of the previous champions only exist because Bard allowed it to be so. He could go back and kill them as babies, and could have ended their bloodline long before they were conceived. But for one reason or another, he has determined that none of the previous champions are worth stopping. Others may be strong, but Bard has transcended the need for strength.

I think you are overestimating Karthus and Malzahar here.

Karthus doesn't raise the dead,at least it is nowhere mentioned in the lore(he probably does bring the victims back to the shadow isles,but looking at the harrowing video thats nothing special),he is a high ranking dude among the shadow isles,who uses death magic,but thats about it. Sure death magic sounds awesome,but it doesn't have to be instant-death,a good old axe to the face might be just as effective.

Malzahar doesn't really seem that powerful,he has a cult and some void powers,but what makes you sure he is that strong?Malzahar sided with the void because he thought that they would be unstoppable regardless of what happens,why would he be more powerful than anything that came from the void itself?

Karthus can create links to the realm of the dead. He may not be the one that caused their spirits to become like that, but he can summon them at will.

Sure death magic sounds awesome,but it doesn't have to be instant-death,a good old axe to the face might be just as effective.

In the short run, sure. But the thing is "killing" a member of the shadow isles just delays them. You send them back to the land of the dead, where they will just rise again. Not only that every one of your army that fall to them joins their ranks. This is why the harrowing grows stronger each time.

As for Malz, he is a tricky one to judge. He is not the source of his own power, but the power he wields is still tremendous. He is rebuilding Icathia, and has summoned at least one permanent void creature (Kog'Maw), and is most likely the reason others have managed to slip though (Vel'Koz and Kha'Zix only came after him). If it does not matter if he is the source of his own power, he definitely deserves to be in the top 10. However, omitting him would be perfectly understandable.

I dunno if this is really how the shadow isles champs work.Sure they are undead,but most of them still have some sort of physical body(even if its just armor or clothes). If Karthus dies and becomes a spirit,then where is his body?why would his body suddenly respawn? The reason why the harrowing becomes stronger is because every man who is slain by it becomes a part of it.So while the shadow isles probably do suffer losses,they get new soldiers right away,probably more than they lost(not everyone who gets caught up in it has the ability to fight back). And even if that is how it works,then why would karthus be so much more powerful than the others?After all you only listed Karthus here,but by that arguementation this would work for the others as well.

I dunno about Malzahar rebuilding Icathia,from what we knew about him he did have a cult in the old lore,but thats pretty much all. Kog'maw is drawn towards malzahar,but malz doesn't mind control kog or anything,so I wouldn't really call that a part of malzs power. Malzahar has influence on runeterra,but that doesn't mean he himself is powerful. If we'd go by that logic we would need to include people like Jarvan and swain because they have the power over giant armies that could change the world forever.

This sounds like too much speculation. I'm fairly sure that if you kill a ghoul it stays dead. The Shadow Isles are a place where life is corrupted to intermingle with death. It is not the land of the dead.

Xerath is also much higher, easily top 3. He is magic made form, he is power personified. You can't compare him to anything else. 2 Ascended, already powerful beings in their own right, were barely able to stop and seal him.

The Shadow Isles is not the land of the dead, but it rests on the gateway to the land of the dead. Spirits are escaping the land of the dead, and popping up in the Shadow Isles. Now, whether or not an individual spirit could come back is speculation, but spirits are coming through.

Malz didn't really summon Kog, atleast not actively. More like he drew the creature to him. Plus, Kog isn't even that strong a Void creature, when compard to Rek'sai, Cho'gath, or even Kha'zix.

Before Malz, however, the appearance of a Voidborn was a rare thing. There was Cho'Gath and the Xer'Sai, and that was about it. After Malz began trying to open the Void, however, creatures like Vel'Koz and Kha'Zix started appearing. It appears that Malz has as least made it easier for Voidborn to come to our realm. And, when you consider the power of each Voidborn, that is a devastating effect indeed.

As to the list in general, Syndra would easily be in the top 5. We don't know the depth of her power yet. She's only limited by her experience.

Syndra, while having great natural ability, is too reckless and inefficient. She wastes her power as she is not concentrating it. I did not include her for the same reason I did not include Vieger: she is limited by her own reckless hubris.

This is a fair point, and I considered including Mord on the list (which is why he is in honorable mention). However, Mord is so disconnected to the world that I do not think he could every modify his own actions. Once you find a weakness for Mord, he will never adapt, whereas Karthus is intelligent enough change,

Xerath is also much higher, easily top 3. He is magic made form, he is power personified. You can't compare him to anything else. 2 Ascended, already powerful beings in their own right, were barely able to stop and seal him.

Xerath has arguably the greatest potential power (with the exception of Bard). But his ascension was interrupted and corrupted. He has trouble controlling his power, and is very emotionally unstable (Renekton is not the only one who's sanity was damaged by all that time trapped in the dark). If he can get himself under control, he would sky rocket to the number 2 spot. But as he stands he is simply not as powerful as some other champs (He is still quite powerful though, let's not forget just how many champions there are, and he still reached the top 10).

I... don't think thats accurate either. Where are you getting this information from? I don't recall anything that could back that up. All it seems to me happened is that magic twisted the creatures of the Shadow Isles, leaving them stuck between life and death. Anything killed by one of these creatures is bound to the same fate.

Then, to be quite frank, your entire list is biased and opininated. We're not looking for how they would use their power, or for what, or when. A power list is concerned with only one thing; In terms of raw, unmitigated, maxed out power, who stands at the top?

Elise's lore states that The Shadow Isles is the door to death.

That was when I understood that death was another world and I was at its door.

The wiki on The Shadow Isles states that Yorkc is the ferryman that helps souls cross over from the land of the dead to The Shadow Isles.

There are many shades of death, and each is embrace. To rise from one state to another requires the magical aid of a skilled professional. Yorick, the Gravedigger washed ashore and now acts as a ferryman for the Isles' undead denizens, helping them climb death's many-tiered ladder.

And it is not just a matter of what she would do with the power. Her lack of discipline limits her power. Imagine a strong man who lacked any training vs a small man who mastered a martial art. The small man, despite having less natural ability, is far stronger. Training makes a big difference.

Elise's lore states that The Shadow Isles is the door to death.

From HER perspective. Also, there is such a thing as symbology and allusion.

The wiki on The Shadow Isles states that Yorkc is the ferryman that helps souls cross over from the land of the dead to The Shadow Isles.

It also notes that Yorick went to the IoW to find his corpse and make his name. It's part of the old lore and hasn't been updated yet. It could be the same, or it could be entirely different.

And it is not just a matter of what she would do with the power. Her lack of discipline limits her power. Imagine a strong man who lacked any training vs a small man who mastered a martial art. The small man, despite having less natural ability, is far stronger. Training makes a big difference.

True, but no matter how skilled the small man is, he's not going to beat Superman. And that's what Syndra is. She doesn't have the training, she just has the raw talent to more than make up for it. A person could only hope to best her IF they bridge that gap first.

While she has loads of potential, her natural ability isn't THAT much better. Superman could take an endless number of punches from the a human. Can Syndra really take that an endless number of hits of magical attacks? She is extremely powerful for a human, but compared to creatures like ascended and Voidborn she simply cannot compete. If she trained herself she could, but her arrogance prevents her from every reaching true greatness.

I always see Malzahar towards the top of these lists, but I have to disagree with his placement. Malzahar is ultimately a servant of the Void. While he can open temporary rifts to the Void (as evidenced by his Q and W), it'd take more than he has to create a permanent one - or one large enough for a true eldritch horror to come through. He's not really the true source of his own power, so I'd remove him from the list.

Besides that, I agree with most of your choices - an unusual occurrance. Not sure about Tahm being ranked so high either, but there could be an argument made for him due to his "crossroads demon" nature. And yes, Bard probably is the strongest being in the LoLverse :P

Malz is a tricky one to judge. He was chosen because he was a very powerful seer, so he did have some power before being consumed by the void. I think the question is: Does it matter if he is the source of his own power? He is a puppet, but he is a very powerful puppet. I decided to include him, as I would also argue that non of the ascended are the source of their own power either. They are powered by celestial magic granted from the sun-disc.

I think the difference between Malzahar and the Ascended is that the Ascended were granted powers, but the Void is using Malzahar as a vessel for itself. The Void always seemed to me like a living entity in its own right and just acts through Malzahar. His frail form probably can't handle the full might of the Void's power, so he's more limited than a true Voiborn like Vel'Koz.

But he is tricky to judge. I would have left him as an honorable mention and put someone else in his place, at least until we gained more knowledge of his particular connection with the Void.

Wait... Karthus over Malzahar and Malzahar over Chogath?

It should be Chogath > Malzahar > Karthus

Considering that Chogath is one of the most powerful voidborns and Malzahar is just a servant of the Void. And Karthus was defeated with ease by the void (Malzahar and Kassadin ) once in the old lore (And Karthus in the old lore was more powerful than the new Karthus).

The reason I put Karthus over Malzahar is because Karthus is far more intelligent and manipulative. Malz may top his raw power, but Karthus can convince people to willing give themselves up to join the Shadow Isles. That is the same reason why I put Malzahar > Chogath.

Ultimately, there are two things that need to be considered as well: Firstly, we do not know if either of them actually defeated Kathus. They were fighting, and Karthus was found defeated, the events surrounding remain undisclosed. Since portals to the void were opened, for all we know something even more powerful on the other side took out Karthus. Second, Karthus has grown much stronger. Let us not forget at the time of that lore-segments writing most people in Runeterra still thought the Shadow Isles was a myth (as several of the old lores stated). In the last harrowing, it is shown that the shadow isles is growing in strength. And as the Shadow Isles grows, so does karthus.

But you are looking at Chogath as a "dumb" beast like RekSai. His lore mentions that Chogath "is intelligent, perhaps greatly so" and he seems like a manipulative monster, considering the way that he talks with you.

In the old lore (when the "fight" happened) Karthus wasn't from the Shadow Isles, he was the ruler of The Howling Marsh, pretty much like the Ruined King in the new lore, and he commanded an army of Undeads by himself... unlike the new Karthus that is only an emo guy who entered in the shadow isles (even if he still powerful).

In the new lore of Karthus is an emo dude that became undead and seeks to bring his dark requiem to the world. In the old lore he was the overlord of the Howling Marsh with an undead army of zombies and skeletons as his servants.

Yeah I know Karthus' old and new lores but it doesn't prove anything. A human king who is without superpowers can have a army, you know? Does that make him more powerful than Karthus? It doesn't even make him stronger than Teemo.

Also zombies and skeletons are not big deals. I know a lich called as Larloch in Forgetten Realms universe, he has over 60 liches in his command with 3 of them are demiliches. If Larloch's lore changed to emo dude from having an army I would agree to you. But it's just zombies and skeletons.

With Kindred joining the league, now technically Bard is the second most powerful. For even Bard is alive, and all that lives must eventually die. . . . .

Kindred seems to be the "reaper" of Runeterra, however, Bard is something that goes beyond Runeterra and the universe.

Actually Kindred is revealed to be death itself, given physical form when the ruined king split the veil between life and death. And no matter where in the universe you are, life will always end in death.

There are tons of fan theories... it doesn't means that all those theories are true. If you blindly believe that your theory is true, even if there is little evidence, good for you, but it doesn't means that its real.

The Theory of Gravity at least has evidence supported by more than 1 person.

It isn't just a theory. It is plainly stated in the quotes that Kindred has. The quotes repeatedly reference them being the embodiment of death, and even make reference to them having come into being when the ruined king split the veil between life and death.

I'm only going by what Riot has put into the champion. If you don't like it tell them.

Because, the only quote that talks about the Shadow Isles never says that, it says that the item 3153 was "Forged in a land unwelcome to us."... nothing else.

And "them having come into being when the ruined king split the veil between life and death" goes against their quote that says:

Not necessarily. Firstly, Bard is exists beyond the realms of space and time. Even if he could be considered "alive", his form is so vastly different from ours that the petty bounds of life and death seem beneath him. Second, there are things stronger than dead. The Shadow Isles proves that death can be defeated. As does Urgot and SIon. Death is strong to be sure, but it is not the strongest force in Runeterra.

A valid argument, regarding Bard. It is never really stated if he is even a living being, or simply a random anomaly that is bouncing around making whale sounds and taking powerful things away form people.

However in the case of Urgot, he never actually died before becoming what he is now. While Sion is undead, existing in a broken state of insanity. The new champion references this by saying that even those whom come back from death, wish they hadn't. Sion however is in such a state of bloodlust and madness that he cannot feel the eternal torment that other undead feel.
