We should get an icon for unlocking every champion

I think it is a good idea for us players, however, Riot needs to get profit from their game. Buying new icons requires RP, to get RP you must buy a prepaid RP card, which is where most of Riot's profit comes from. So I personally don't think that Riot would ever do this.

Not true. Riot Games is making such significant Revenue that this could work. Besides, not many people buy Riot Points for the sake of the Summoner Icons.

I never said that people buy RP just for summoner icons. In fact, not many players actually buy summoner icons. Also, Riot Games is in fact making a big profit, but giving away summoner icons would cost them a very small portion of their gains. Sure, they can afford it, but also, they would have to make new summoner icons for the champions. As I said before, Riot is currently using their Staff to work out new things, like bug fixes and a new Ranked Team Builder I heard. So I don't think that they will use their Staff to create brand new icons, which does cost money. So in the long run, they would lose more money creating the icons and giving them away than they are earning by just selling the ones we currently have in the store. You get me?

Riot has already sold a lot of icons by IP (even 1IP) and some of them where even free.

Yes, but understand that with the significant amount of Character Skins that they possess and the Champions that can be unlocked with Riot Points, I would assume that most of their Revenue derives from that leading source. Summoner Icon purchases are just a small contribution to their monstrous Revenue at the end of the year.
