Warwick's New Lore

Although it has been well past time for Warwick to get a game rework, I'm really disappointed with his new lore. Since the beginning, Soraka and Warwick had been tied together through fate, love, and hate. But with Warwick's new lore update, not only is Soraka's not mentioned at all, but the only important person Warwick faintly remembers is a girl, who I am now convinced is NOT Soraka, but Jinx. Why? Because in Warwick's special interaction video, the only line he says to Soraka is " Eat your heart out," (which is the ONLY thing left that reference their previous connection) but he says "You were there," and "Let me forget," which hints that she is the girl he remembers in his lore. Jinx already gets enough love, attention, and importance; let Soraka shine too! Especially with Warwick.

Honestly the whole Soraka and Warwick thing sounded a little fantastical and rather boring to me. I vastly prefer the new lore that appears to be tied to Jinx.

Why is it boring? Jinx already have enough special interaction and attention. Sometimes it'll be nice to see riot care about other champions as well. But it seems Riot clearly have their favorites.

Honestly I have to say,that I never found the connection between Warwick and Soraka to be particularly interesting.

Yes,I do find it more interesting.

In the case of Warwick it does feel now like he is actually struggling to keep his humanity,something that wasn't present in his previous lore(as he liked his transformation in his previous lores). His connection to Soraka in his old lores always felt like it had little potential,it felt like it would only consist of WW attacking Soraka from time to time and maybe Soraka healing/denying to heal warwick from his wolf-form.

As for the new lore in general: I don't like every change that they make(especially targon was quite the mixed bag of good and bad lores),but I feell like the overall lore improved a lot.

Riot has a large canvas and could have written Warwick's lore in any way.. they could have included his struggle to keep his humanity, while still retaining some aspect of his old lore too, for example. But we will never know now. Maybe it's just a matter of perspective, regarding Warwick's and Soraka's connection?

I agree with you there, I don't like every change, but I don't hate every change either. I really like how they changed it to singed improving warwick into something more like a chimera, which makes sense because it's singed we're talking about. What I had in mind when I first read the lore was that Warwick's unstable transformation had finally gotten out of hand, so Singed had to take over and do something to help his friend, even though his way of helping is twisted and strange, and ended up causing him more pain than helping him. But now, I think Warwick and Singed were never friends to begin with, so they're changing not only Warwick's connection to Soria, but his friendship to Singed as well. I suppose I might not feel as strongly if they had connected him to someone other than Jinx... I just feel she gets way too much attention. It's like Riot has favorites so they include those champions in a lot more projects, than some of the other underrated champions.

Another problem is that Riot tend not to expand on lore and their stories, so it makes it even more difficult to know. I understand it's not like they're writing a novel, but it would be nice to just receive something more about some of the under looked champions as well.

Well they did say that they want to expand on lores eventually(and they already did that to some extent in 2015),but at this point they are likely more focused on updating the outdated lores(which makes sense,I mean you can't progress a story that hasn't even started). In fact they said that this is one of the reasons for retcons,as many champs have/had lores where there wasn't much room for expansion.

I think the new lore works so much better. Connections like Soraka and Warwick didn't work well thematically. Why is a chemical-induced werewolf created in ZAUN of all places able to trick/even be noticed by a cosmic entity like Soraka? The flavor just didn't feel right.

I think they would have needed to change Warwick's home if they wanted to keep that. A Targon or Ionian werewolf could make that work in a more believable way. Really anywhere but Zaun.

In the original lore, he wasn't a werewolf yet... how he tricked her? Simple, she fell for him. I mean, she left her grove, know that it was a bad idea, to go after him, hoping to help him in any way. The fear of him dying caused her to strike the men attacking him. Plus... it could be his "salvation" in a way. I can still see some simmer of connection between the new and old lore, since I haven't heard Riot declare anything official (besides what's written in Singed's journal and Warwick's bio). Really doubt it though... anyways...

How would that work? If his origin was changed instead?

WW's new lore is okay (a bit too edgy though), although I really would've liked it if Soraka was included in it. Compositionally speaking, she would've balanced out his edginess pretty well.

I do as well. I was really hoping they would spice up Soraka's and Warwick's connection more, to make it interesting and fresh, while still retaining that connection they have with each other. Sadly, that was not the case.
