What is it like in the artistic world?

Répôrt My ADC·9/9/2018, 7:51:09 PM·6 votes·5,524 views

This isn't just directed at riot, but anyone who does animations, art, a game team, freelance music maker, story writer, etc. Don't mind me asking questions ! --PS, I am an aspiring artist (I still haven't decided what kind of art..) so any advice would be appreciated w/ answers to the questions! --PPS, Have conversations with each other if you'd like, and ask questions if you're curious as well! Q; What's your favorite / least favorite part about what you do? Q; How do you stay motivated? Q; Where does your inspiration come from? Q; What was your favorite work?(song story animation drawing etc) Q; If you had your own team to help you produce something (story, music, animation, amusement park, anything) what would you make and what would it be about? Q; What place, person, piece of history, song, movie (etc) do you base your characters/art/music off of? (If any)

Just an outsider looking in, I'd love to hear your answers !

/edit: this is mostly an @Riot thread, so it might not feel league related, mods feel free to move over to GD if it feels out of place //edit of an edit: just editing

Well! I'm not that great of an artist but i'd love to answer your questions! Q1: Hmm. Probably the editing, colouring and shading on pc! Q2: I'm always motivated on what i'm doing! If not, i watch tutorials on yt on how to draw certain stuff xD Q3: Well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbIx0dGY7B0 Q4: Drawing! :D Q5: It would be about comic-making! It would be about a specific imaginary comic book series, medieval-like! :D Q6: Hmm. Depends on the character honestly. For example, if i want to make Yone, Yasuo's Brother, I would read yasuo's lore, get some detail about how Yone looked like, and would make a zombie-like samurai, or sth else As i said, i'm not that much of a great artist, infact i suck, but I wanted to answer those questions! :D What about you mate? :D

What's it like..? Well professionally everyone either wants you to draw something for free (or near enough), or over the weekend (friday meetings are so popular!)

Socially? Artists are... artists are..... not balanced people and generally have very little in common with eachother even if we can draw. Also you get to stay at home all day in almost every scenario, which is either awesome or super isolating.

Motivation is either money, or a need... a need to perform- art can be like an ear worm, you start humming, singing the lines, can't help it, it's basically compulsive, could even be defined as an addiction.

I'm still somewhat a beginner in the world of music composition, but I would absolutly love to work for a video game company, especially an indie one.

I still think I can answer these questions from a personal POV. On a side note, it feels like the thread doesn't belong so much in "story, art and sound" sub-board.

Q; What's your favorite / least favorite part about what you do?

Not having the time to do it. There's so much I need to do that I can't find as much time as I'd like to put into music. There's also that sometimes frustrating moment when I just can't figure out what's wrong with what I'm doing.

My favorite moment is when I can listen to what I've composed and actually like what I'm hearing. That's something I wouldn't have heard if I didn't do it and that's really pleasant.

Q; How do you stay motivated?

I'm not forcing myself. To be fair, there is no such thing as "staying motivated". Either you are, which means that you currently want to do what you're doing, or you aren't, which means that you wish you were doing something else. I'm not sure you can achieve great arts when you're not 100% in it. So uh, listen to your body and mind, don't force things upon yourself.

Q; Where does your inspiration come from?

Kind of a funny answer but most of my work comes from either hearing a sound and liking it so much that it inspires me a song... or either humming in the bathroom. Yup, that's a thing.

Q; What was your favorite work?(song story animation drawing etc)

I'm still non-pro so I can't really precisely answer this one. My favorite work is definily my last work, a 3 months champion creation that you can find in my profile. Composing Alyx' song was simply amazing and I'm really proud of the result!

Q; If you had your own team to help you produce something (story, music, animation, amusement park, anything) what would you make and what would it be about?

Gonna keep that one for myself for the moment, but I really do have a project in mind, a video game dev project.

Q; What place, person, piece of history, song, movie (etc) do you base your characters/art/music off of? (If any)

I... uh.. I... humming in the bathroom... To be fair, I'm sometimes inspired by things I hear or see, but that's more of a sudden realisation rather than a will to base my things off something else.

This is lovely and all but the contents of this thread has nothing of any relevance to Leagues of Legends. If you wanted to ask questions about the art industry in this specific section of the boards why not have question of art in this game? Otherwise this all could have found a better home in 'General Discussions' or somewhere on Reddit.

Everyone. Literally everyone, even that small child down the street is somehow a better artist than you but people occasionally buy your stuff instead for some reason.

Q; What's your favorite / least favorite part about what you do? My favorite thing by far is being able to design/create characters, creatures, and worlds! This goes hand in hand with being a writer, visual storytelling is a super important and amazing part of being an artist. I love making things that people love and can relate to. https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/012/164/873/large/anastasia-snyder-thunder-thighs-turnaround-by-inkrose98-dcj5uhy.jpg?1533373533 Worst? Probably the sheer amount of time and effort it takes to get to a professional level. Takes dedication!

Q; How do you stay motivated?

Listening to TONS of music and looking at a bunch of art! Seeing what other people are doing and trying to help yourself get to their level is a great motivator. https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/011/974/712/large/anastasia-snyder-kindred-surprise-by-inkrose98-dcgzc42.jpg?1532386758

Q; Where does your inspiration come from?

League of Legends, Star Wars, Disney, Legend of Zelda, Bethesda Games, Blizzard, Fire emblem, Fantasy novels, etc etc... https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/008/977/623/large/anastasia-snyder-zoesmall.jpg?1516422725

Q; What was your favorite work?(song story animation drawing etc)

Currently this one! It's a bit old but I can't help but to be very proud of it! https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/008/887/149/large/anastasia-snyder-urbosasmall.jpg?1515919930

Q; If you had your own team to help you produce something (story, music, animation, amusement park, anything) what would you make and what would it be about?

Definitely a high-production value tv series based on the characters and world of my book, Dragon Queen: Scarlet Reign! I'm really dedicated to bringing that story to life. It's kinda my art/writing baby. https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/010/424/637/large/anastasia-snyder-fixed-small-aelwen.jpg?1524360400

Q; What place, person, piece of history, song, movie (etc) do you base your characters/art/music off of? (If any)

Fantasy concepts that I think might be underutilized in a certain way are always great places to start working. I get a lot of inspiration from a lot of places, it's hard to name them all! https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/008/429/003/large/anastasia-snyder-aelwenredesignsmall.jpg?1512693644

It's nothing more than creativity here tbh. If you wanna draw say, a non-existant skin for a champion then you also have to make sure the design fits with the theme.
