Please keep complaining about the Global Splash Unification

In case you think I'm being sarcastic: I'm not.

So I'm sure you're wondering why I'm making this thread if it's not about complaining about complaining (It's worth noting that I actually got in on complaining about the splashes on the first day).

First things first, I want to share something that a lot of people may not have seen, or may not have paid attention to:

We won't be making any reverts or changes during this round, but this feedback will help our splash artists prioritize what to upgrade when they get the chance. I mentioned this in a comment, the benefit of making these changes is to eliminate a pipeline that has been causing us internal pain. We know some of these aren't as nice and the art style is off, but choosing one splash or the other was the fastest way to kill this pipeline. We want to focus on new content and features, not firefighting and changes like this help us do that.

^Official post by Riot JxE on the PBE forum.

In other words:

  • Riot WILL NOT be changing their minds on any of these splash arts in any way; they will all become the official splash arts for those skins for every region starting in 6.7. (I think this is a stupid decision, but moving on.)

  • Riot IS AWARE that some of these splash arts are terrible. As far as I can tell, any splash art that had its quality objectively lowered was the result of someone being stubborn until Riot gave up. Because...

  • Riot is making these changes PRIMARILY to simplify some workflow. This is not intended as even a patchwork fix to the problem of bad splash art: the goal is ONLY to have the same splash art in every region without breaking any laws.

So, why do I want people to keep complaining? Well if you read the first sentence again then you'll see that, while we CAN'T do anything to keep this batch of splashes from going live, we CAN make sure that the most terrible skins get updated as quickly as possible. Before this Unification, I had never been introduced to utter lack of quality that is Toxic Dr. Mundo; now it has new attention so we can all start complaining about the fact that the replacement is also terrible. So good work on the complaining, we should see results eventually, and everybody (including myself) demanding polls should be relieved to know that they're doing just that, except now you care more than you would have if they had started with asking for feedback rather than starting with massive, mostly terrible changes.

... I still wish they'd reconsider just for Sun Goddess Karma though... I mean, I don't own the skin or anything, but I just hate the "new" one really bad.

P.S. They also added another batch today, though I don't see anything wrong with it on the same order as the previous group. Nunu Bot is the standout for "made worse in some way", but even that's not bad.

honestly don't think they should bother changing toxic mundo's splash

  1. it isn't that bad as a peace of art, the complaints are basically "hes sad instead of crazy dumb looking" like whatever just use another skin

  2. more importantly, its a legacy skin. riot should be updating the skin splashes we see all the time, not the skins that were removed from the shop because they were low quality in the first place.

there's plenty of subpar old skins they can work on that need the help way more than toxic mundo

The new global splash updates look ok however, I'm starting to feel that some of the splash arts look a bit to anime? For e.g Amumu just turned a bit cartoony as well as its skins and other such. Also a big problem to me is that a lot of the new splash updates make some of the characters look like sex toys. For e.gEvelynn andMissFortune look very provocative in SOME splashes. This is starting to make me think that it wouldn't be appropriate for maybe the younger players(10-12 yr old Friday night gamers :p). I don't know guys, you tell me your thoughts

P.S Pleaz riot give us a voice or at least let us have a poll to decide. P.S.S This sounds like a tyrannical decision instead of democracy T-T

Some of these skins are atrociously bad and should never have been released in the first place. Having failed that QA test, they should have never been approved for migration to the NA/EU servers, especially since the western art could have just migrated to China instead. Regardless, the decision's been made and nobody should expect us to be happy about it. This is one of those out-of-touch bean-counter decisions that really irritates customers. For the tiny amount of time and money they'll save forcing trash on western players splash-art unification, it's not likely worth the annoyance it's causing customers. It's an arrogant, lazy decision and it's exactly the type of stuff people SHOULD complain about.

I paid for Exiled Morgana because I liked it the way it was. I would never have paid for it if I was going to have to stare at an anorexic junkie every time I used that skin.

Riot Reav3 also released a list of champs who will be getting a skin splash rework:

"For the record, these are all the champions that are on the list for skin splash reworks right now. In no particular order.

Nidalee, Trundle, Tristana, Sion, Miss Fortune, Alistar, Kassadin, Gangplank, Twitch, Fiora, Karthas, Maokai, Karma, Garen, Morgana, Sivir, Sona, Annie, Renekton, Nasus & Heimerdinger"

So as much as I want to continue to complain about the awful Karma Chinese splash arts, it's nice to know she's getting a much deserved splash rework down the road. I mean, she only needs two-three rework (if they're including her traditional skin), it's not a lot compared to someone like Sion who has tons of splash that needs a rework.
